Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 3, 2005 Moderators Posted November 3, 2005 The Internet abounds with people who are not what they claim to be. There are scam artists who make a good living by seperating people from thier money. Some do this by selling medical products that do not work. I often recieve requests to purchase such. In addition, there are those who attempt to obtain money. I have recieved serveral requests to help some poor person move $25,000,000 out of a country to some safe haven. I am promised that if I will do so, I will recieve $2,500,000 for cooperating. Over the sereral years that I have been involved with Club Adventist I have been told of several cases in which it appears that people have contacted Club Adventist members in an attempt to raise money. If you recieve an e-mail from someone who claims to be a 20 something, from a third-world country, who simply wants to be your friend, be careful. I have recieved such within the past few days. The message that I received did not pass what I call the "smell test." No one who runs Club Adventist wants our membership to be scamed. But, there is little that we can do to prevent people from sending you private e-mails. Quote Gregory

Paul Beach Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Margaret Gray adds: Sometimes a person actually needs help and this is where they go to get it. There are many people in the world who are in desperate financial situations. It would be well to follow Stan's advice, however, and inform him if you receive solicitations either on this forum directly, in the form of a PM, or in the form of an email from somebody who has used this forum. Administrators Gail Posted November 3, 2005 Administrators Posted November 3, 2005 ... especially if they are from Africa Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Moderators Bravus Posted November 3, 2005 Moderators Posted November 3, 2005 Yes, just to add to Gail's point, some of us have also received PMs. Mrs Gray has it right - in a way, it's less of a tragedy to be scammed once than it is to turn down someone who is genuinely desperate... So be careful, but be <strike>liberal</strike> generous. <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Bah: 'liberal' is meant to be crossed out and replaced by 'generous' but I can't get the codes to cooperate. Paul Beach Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Margaret Gray responds: If you wish to delete something and replace it with something else, you can just edit it out. It is a very simple procedure. If you are a liberal, you would send out a check in someone else's name. If you are a conservative, you would send out five cents in a money-order. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted November 3, 2005 Moderators Posted November 3, 2005 I say, it's a joke, ma'am... I meant 'liberal' in the sense of generous, then realised that it has a quite different connotation in the US, so switched the term but not the concept. As long as people is helpin' people, I don't care about their politics. Quote Truth is important

Unless Mrs. Gray is talkin' about personalities/natures...then she does have a point.... Since Halloweens is over, and the holiday season is nearly here, may I suggest a holiday spirit to reign....
