For God is not unjust

For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.

Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God's promises because of their faith and endurance.

It is an interesting interruption, this verse has all too often been used to attempt to justify salvation by works.

I happen to be a solid adherent to salvation by works. It just happens to be that those works have already been and continue to be fulfilled in the works Jesus Christ performed and is performing in the lives of those who invite Him into their lives.

The only way God can keep us from becoming "spiritually dull and indifferent" is for us to work/care for others. Why? Because the only way we can forget about self, and thus let God heal us, is to be involved, completely involved, in working/caring for others.

This is a lesson that it took me a long time to learn, and I still seem to forget it at times.

The only way to become like Jesus, is to do the same things He did.

So true. However, the thing that I have to be careful of is not to become so involved in working to help/care for, etc others; or while working for our Lord, that I forget to make quality time and opportunity to worship Him. It is easy for me to become so involved in church work that I fail to give adequate time in maintaining my personal relationship with my Lord and Savior. That fine line .......

Agreed, Naomi.

It's been my experience that working/caring for others drives me to my knees as it completely exposes my inability to reach other people for God on my own. I'm not that bright/loving/caring. I can't read other people's minds nor understand how to help them. Neither can I generate Christ's love for others on my own. All of these things make me aware of my own insufficiencies on a dailly basis and drive me to my knees. It keeps on reminding where the Source of my only help is.
