? Get back

Paul McCartney has been reunited with a bass guitar that had been missing for more than 50 years, the New York Times reports.

  • The Höfner 500/1 bass can be heard on many of the Beatles' earliest hits, but went missing sometime around the recording of "Let It Be," in 1969.
  • After multiple searches and any number of wild theories, the instrument turned out to be stashed away in a family's loft, close to where it was last seen. The family called it in after a new search effort raised awareness of the missing bass.

? 1 fun thing: First swim in a century

Chicagoans swam in the Chicago River yesterday. Photo: Moyo Adeolu/Axios

Hundreds of people jumped into the Chicago River yesterday for the first organized swim in the river in almost a century.

  • Why it matters: The swim, which organizers have been trying to put together for years, comes after decades of industry neglect and even more decades of cleanup, Axios Chicago's Justin Kaufmann notes.

Open swims and races in the Chicago River were once popular events in the early 1900s.

  • The race this year raised money for ALS research.

She dug through the rack of capes, helping me try on one after another, hanging the discards up, until we finally settled on the best one to go around my splinted arm. I didn't get her name, but she was very lovely, lively and glowed with grace. I was very grateful for her! I will think of her each time I wear it this winter."

Not taking no for an answer, he proceeded to take out two plates and dole out the hot, fresh food for the both of them. They shared a meal and proceeded to have a great conversation, all by the glow of the late-night lights."
