Friday nights?

As a Seventh Day Adventist, how do you spend your Friday Nights after Sabbath has begun? Do you have church meetings to attend or do you stay at home? Do you have a set routine for how you might observe the beginning of the Sabbath?

For us, we are usually very happy to call it a day and rest. I like to read. :)

I usually work on my Sabbath School lesson texts that will be posted later on. We do have meetings we could attend but mostly don't (I think it's called age).

As a youth Friday nights were special, in warm weather mother would sit outside and play her guitar and sing favorite hymns and always was the one "Friday evening, set of sun, Christian work should be done" or words similar. In cold weather, she would play the piano and we would sing and read scriptures, have prayer ... also study our SS Lessons one last time. That was then .....

Now, I usually play good gospel music and read or if I am presenting the 11 o'clock message go over it once again.

I grew up fairly far north, where the summer sunset could be as late as 10:30 and the winter sunset as early as 4:00. In summer, Friday night would consist of little more than prayer then bedtime. In winter we'd have early family worship followed by vespers at the church.

Now that we live at a more moderate latitude, Friday night generally consists of family worship, then reading stories or playing games with our children.

For me I made some enquiries and discovered that no SDA church in my state holds a Friday night service, so I brought it up with some friends at church and we have put together a small family bible study group which meets at the church and then we have a pot luck afterwards, lots of fun and a great way to start the sabbath.
