8thdaypriest Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Has anyone thought that perhaps the LORD wanted to spare human kind - in the event of sin - from the end which awaits the Devil and his angels?? The devil "will be tormented day and night forever and ever [unto the age of the ages]" (Rev. 20:10). Human "flesh" would not last that long. Human beings are not "spirit" as the Devil and his angles are. At the Second Coming - the redeemed will be given "spiritual" bodies - "like unto the angels". But the lost will remain physical - even when they are resurrected to face judgment (whether at the Second Coming as I believe, or after the 1000 years as most SDAs believe). A physical body comes with some disadvantages - like disease and aging, and physical pain after accidents, or with migraines like I have. But if I think of my physical body as something the LORD made in order to spare humans FROM consuming pain in the lake of fire "forever and ever" - then it helps with the day to day short term pain. JoeMo Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Quote: At the Second Coming - the redeemed will be given "spiritual" bodies I'm not too sure about the spiritual body thing. Quote: They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.(Luke 24: 29-33) Notice Jesus had a post-resurrection body of flesh and bone; not flesh and blood (I don't know if that's pertinent). But if we are to be like Jesus, won't we have abody of flesh and bone rather than just spirit? Quote
M. T. Cross Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I noticed there that Jesus pretty much said that ghosts exist. Quote
8thdaypriest Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 Jesus appeared in the upper room - WITHOUT entering by the door. He just appeared. Apparently a "spiritual body" can pass back and forth between the spiritual dimension and the physical dimension. Also the two disciples walked with Him to Emmaus and did not recognize Him. He kept his identity hidden. What does that say? Quote 8thdaypriest

LifeHiscost Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Quote: A physical body comes with some disadvantages - like disease and aging, and physical pain after accidents Perhaps glorified body would be more appropriate to identify man after their resurrection when Jesus comes the second time. "And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet." 8thdaypriest Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 No one is debating the "state of the dead" here. I agree that death is an unconscious state, with God retaining a "memory" of the individual. I am living with continuing chronic pain. I was born with Chiari One malformation, which makes my neck and shoulders very painful all of the time. I also have weather induced cluster migraines. I have had some not so reverent (I'm sorry to say) one way conversions with the LORD, at times. I have just been ruminating about the whole - very painful - human situation. While I certainly know that my pain does not compare with many others, who have suffered far worse things than I - it is difficult to see past the present moment, when you are in day three of a cluster migraine. I have wondered what will keep the redeemed from ever "taking just one more drink" - so to speak. I do not believe that the LORD will take over our minds. If He was going to use the "easy button" then He should have done it in the garden and skipped this whole mess. A dry alcoholic will tell you that he does not take that first drink, BECAUSE he knows that one would not be enough. He does not want to loose his life, or everything that has meaning for him. I believe that we will be like that alcoholic. We will not want to rebel - even in thought - because we KNOW what that black abyss FEELS like. We have all experienced the pain - either directly or indirectly. I doubt whether an angel has ever stubbed his toe. Physical pain seems to go with a physical body, in the physical dimension. And i wonder whether the LORD set it up that way - on purpose - to spare us the torment in the lake of fire "forever and ever" [unto the age of the ages] - as Satan and his angels will experience (Rev. 20). But BECAUSE we are physical - we experience physical pain. Now the emotional pain - THAT I believe God experiences also, although maybe not in exactly the same way that we do - what with our brains being physical. "In all their affliction He was afflicted." God said that to me once, in the middle of a bad migraine. I believe he was letting me know that He was feeling it with me. Quote 8thdaypriest
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted July 22, 2014 Moderators Posted July 22, 2014 Quote: Apparently a "spiritual body" can pass back and forth between the spiritual dimension and the physical dimension. Perhaps in eternity physical bodies will have powers that we cannot even dream of in our existence. Included in this might be the ability to materialize at will. Just speculation as the Bible is not definitive on this. Quote Gregory
8thdaypriest Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 Good thoughts gen-7. And Yeshua shone with glory on the Mt of Transfiguration. So did Moses when he came down from Mt Sinai. Paul does say that there is a "natural body" (physical) and there is a "spiritual body". 1 Corinthians 15:44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (NKJ) Yeshua said that in the resurrection we will be "like the angels". Matthew 22:30 "For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. (Mat 22:30 NKJ) There is nothing noted about angels being "made from dust". They are spirit beings. Studying thru Torah, I remember that everything connected with procreation made one "unclean". "Issue of blood" at birth, issue of semen rendering the man "unclean" so he could not enter the Temple until he bathed and the sun set, BOTH man and woman had to bath after sex, etc. etc. Nothing "unclean" can enter the Temple, which says to me that there will be no further procreation by the redeemed who receive "spiritual" bodies - like the angels.
