Administrators Gail Posted July 26, 2014 Administrators Posted July 26, 2014 Tell me what you think of this quote: "Many a portion of Scripture which learned men pronounce a mystery, or pass over as unimportant, is full of comfort and instruction to him who has been taught in the school of Christ." Counsels on SS Work, 38 What is the school of Christ? What lesson is there for us? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted July 26, 2014 Author Administrators Posted July 26, 2014 It continues: Quote: An understanding of Bible truth depends not so much on the power of intellect brought to the search as on the singleness of purpose, the earnest longing after righteousness Is this perhaps why some of the deepest sermons I have heard were from people relying not so much on the Hebrew meaning of a word or on an understanding of ancient history, but on God's Spirit to bring a passage to life? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

IMO, the school of Christ - sitting at the feet of Jesus - is His Spirit providing individual counsel and insight to each of our specific situations. His counsel to you will likely take a different form than His counsel to me; but that counsel is "perfect" for us as individuals. Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted July 28, 2014 Moderators Posted July 28, 2014 Reliance upon the meaning of the Hebrew (to include the other languages) without the power of the Holy Spirit will result in a sermon that is lifeless, without energy and unable to transform lives. Quote Gregory

Counsels on SS Work, 38 What is the school of Christ? What lesson is there for us? The "school of Christ" is not found only in listening, but also in doing. If obedience is not found in the life of the professed Christian they will never be found in "the school of Christ". Jesus made this plain in His lessons on the "vine and the branches", and in His statements, such as, "if you love, keep my commandments" and "whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother". The school of Christ is just as much about self-discipline enlightened by God's word as it is about Bible study and prayer. Administrators Gail Posted July 28, 2014 Author Administrators Posted July 28, 2014 Wonderful! I like it! Tell me more! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted July 28, 2014 Author Administrators Posted July 28, 2014 A thought I had was that believers can be stunted in growth, not growing, but educated. And then you have someone that doesn't have a lot of intellect but is able to grasp God's word on faith, albeit simply. All should produce spiritual fruit. But I think we overlook the heart's role sometimes. It doesn't take education or intelligence to have a heart that is involved. In one sense it could be describing the "poor of the world, rich in faith". Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
