Why?

"Jesus saith to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonas, dost thou love Me more than these?" He saith to Him, "Yes, Lord; Thou hast known that I dearly love Thee;" He saith to him, "Feed my lambs."

He saith to him again, a second time, "Simon, son of Jonas, dost thou love Me?" he saith to Him, "Yes, Lord; thou hast known that I dearly love Thee;" He saith to him, "Tend my sheep."

He saith to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonas, dost thou dearly love Me?" Peter was grieved that He said to him the third time, "Dost thou dearly love Me?" and he said to Him, "Lord, thou hast known all things; thou dost know that I dearly love Thee." Jesus saith to him, "Feed my sheep;"

I'm not getting what the connection is between these two passages.

The first one has to do with righteousness by faith, right? People not being saved because they don't rely on the righteousness of Jesus?

And the second passage has to do with Jesus accepting the repentance of Peter, forgiving him, and letting him know that even though he denied his Lord, that God is still going to use him. Right?

And so your point is what?

Why?

Since the wedding garment is the righteousness of Jesus Christ, the love expressed in the texts below of which Jesus was trying to elicit from Peter, would indicate the reason why few are chosen. IOW Jesus was moving Peter to the recognition that only by receiving His robe of righteousness, the ability to feed(Love) His sheep, could include Peter as one of the chosen, and that love could develop only after accepting Jesus Love in place of his own self-righteousness.
The same of course, would apply to all professed followers of Christ.

Sometimes God's word is so clear to one individual and a mystery to another.

I did not see the relationship between these texts at the first and I had to consult my favorite author to get more insight. Only then did it make perfect sense.

It is good to exercise our minds outside the proverbial box.
