Zech. 14 Mount of Olives splits in half

Zechariah 14

The Lord Will Rule the Earth

1 Watch, for the day of the Lord is coming when your possessions will be plundered right in front of you! 2 I will gather all the nations to fight against Jerusalem. The city will be taken, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half the population will be taken into captivity, and the rest will be left among the ruins of the city.

3 Then the Lord will go out to fight against those nations, as he has fought in times past. 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem. And the Mount of Olives will split apart, making a wide valley running from east to west. Half the mountain will move toward the north and half toward the south. 5 You will flee through this valley, for it will reach across to Azal. Yes, you will flee as you did from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all his holy ones with him.

6 On that day the sources of light will no longer shine, 7 yet there will be continuous day! Only the Lord knows how this could happen. There will be no normal day and night, for at evening time it will still be light.

8 On that day life-giving waters will flow out from Jerusalem, half toward the Dead Sea and half toward the Mediterranean, flowing continuously in both summer and winter.

9 And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped.

10 All the land from Geba, north of Judah, to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become one vast plain. But Jerusalem will be raised up in its original place and will be inhabited all the way from the Benjamin Gate over to the site of the old gate, then to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. 11 And Jerusalem will be filled, safe at last, never again to be cursed and destroyed.

12 And the Lord will send a plague on all the nations that fought against Jerusalem. Their people will become like walking corpses, their flesh rotting away. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13 On that day they will be terrified, stricken by the Lord with great panic. They will fight their neighbors hand to hand. 14 Judah, too, will be fighting at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the neighboring nations will be captured—great quantities of gold and silver and fine clothing. 15 This same plague will strike the horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all the other animals in the enemy camps.

16 In the end, the enemies of Jerusalem who survive the plague will go up to Jerusalem each year to worship the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, and to celebrate the Festival of Shelters. 17 Any nation in the world that refuses to come to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will have no rain. 18 If the people of Egypt refuse to attend the festival, the Lord will punish them with the same plague that he sends on the other nations who refuse to go. 19 Egypt and the other nations will all be punished if they don’t go to celebrate the Festival of Shelters.

21...And on that day there will no longer be traders in the Temple of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Do you think these events occur before or after the 1K years?

In exegesis, the Old Testament did not see a second coming. Deuteronomy 4 gave two possible histories for Israel. And both talk about what would have happened had Jesus been accepted.

If Jesus was accepted, this would have happened not all that too long after the resurrection. Since he was not accepted and we have the reapplications of the prophecy with the events of the Second Coming and Millennium, it is proper to apply this after the Millennium.

This prophecy indicates that it is YHVH, the Father, who descends on Mt. of Olives on the Day of the LORD, causing it to split in half. It would seem that this event occurs at the end of the 1K years, but, the reference to survivors and capture of wealth point to the beginning of that time period. So, then, if the Father arrives here at the beginning of the 1K years, the Son must arrive at a later time, perhaps after Judgment Day.

Maybe YHVH arrives on Earth when the Abomination of Desolation occurs. Christ warned his people to escape to the mountains, possibly due to the valleys being filled in turning the area of Israel into a large plain. This is the place where the Judgment of humanity eventually takes place.

Aliensanctuary: You are seeing something that most of us miss. However, you are seeing what COULD have happened and trying to make it fit exactly into what WILL happen.

As I said above, the actual prophecy was telling how it could have been fulfilled had Jesus been accepted. Since he was not, the principle is still there but will have to cycle around (like how the Hebrews could have entered the promised land, but had to go into the wilderness for another generation to return and fulfill the prophecy). We have exegeses as to what could have happened, and analogy where we apply the principle to a similar situation.

Now while in a lot of ways it is interchangeable, Basically Jesus is YHVH. The Father is more Elohim.

Do you believe this is true for all prophecies concerning the Day of the LORD and the Time of the End in the OT?

On the one hand God knows when is the best time for the second coming and his purposes know neither haste nor delay. However he gives each generation the chance to either enter the promised land or to at least prepare so that

Sorry for the interruptions in my attempts to post and be busy around the house.

Anyway, Deuteronomy 4 gives two possible histories for the Hebrews. One if they are faithful in the land and the other if unfaithful and end up in exile.

Had Hezekiah shown the Babylonian emissaries his true treasure, his God, rather than his stuff, his reformation could have spread to the whole world and instead of Babylon the world empire could have been the eternal empire of good king Joshua.

Had they been faithful in sharing the Gospel in exile it would have ended with a second exodus lead by the Messiah.

Had Jesus been accepted there would not have needed to be a second coming but he could have set up the kingdom after the resurrection.

There are other times in history. Prophecy is given in this frame work.

However, while these moments cycle around with God having given multi-generations the chance to be the last generation. We need to study the Bible in these contexts. From seeing what COULD have happened, we can make better applications of the principles to similar situations and understand what WILL happen. As we see how our forefathers had a chance and what happened, we can better understand what is offered to us and to succeed.

A second thing about these moments cycling around is that each time they have come around they have included larger areas of the world. In the final cycle it will affect every person, with the powers that be controlling who can buy and sell. The trumpets pressuring people to either become caring and helpful and Christ-like, or selfish and demonic like leading to the destruction of the earth as represented by the last plagues.

Jesus ascended FROM the Mt. of Olives.

If He will "come in like manner as you have seen Him go" then it makes sense that He would descend upon the Mt. of Olives.

I have heard teachers say that Christ will NOT touch the ground when He returns. Anyone know where that text is?

Zechariah 14:1-2 remind me of Revelation, where the 10 Kings (I believe the whole earth will be divided into 10 regions) turn on the Harlot and burn her with fire.

Zechariah 5:5-11 talks about "a woman" carried in a basket with a lead disc cover, by two women with wings like storks. They are carrying "the basket" "To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; which it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base". Zechariah is told the woman "is Wickedness".

Sounds like the Harlot to me.

Zechariah 14:5 "Thus the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with You."

The "holy ones" could be the angels, who come with Him to fight the forces of evil.

I agree, that this is Christ who comes and touches down on the Mt. of Olives.

The prophecy of Revelation says "every island fled and the mountains were not found".

The redeemed will "meet Him in the air". They will be caught up. They will ascend to heaven in a cloud of glory.

I believe they will be removed from this earth BEFORE the 7 last vial judgments are poured out.

In Revelation 16:19 "the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God to give her the cup of wine of the fierceness of His wrath".

If Jerusalem has given her self to "the nations", and the Pope has "placed his tent between the seas, at the glorious Holy Mountain", then this EARTHQUAKE might be the one described by Zechariah.
