Has America turn their back on God?

There are some independent preachers ( Baptist theology) who are preaching, that the judgment is coming to America as a nation, because they have turned their back on God. They cite some of the following:

  • Legalized Abortions I think there are now over 80,000 children who have died in America from abortions.
  • Removing God from the schools, Public places
  • Gay marriage
  • Widespread adultery ( this is to be classified as people engaged in sexual acts without marriage)
  • Acceptance of homosexual relationships
  • Absence of preachers, preaching on sin

So what do you think? Has America turned their back on God?

What about Canada? Have they turned their back on God?

Will God remove his hand of protection from these countries, because of their behavior?

not sure it's wise to use such sweeping references to countries... certainly, not all Americans and not all Canadians fit neatly into the definition of "turning their backs on God"...

so my answer to your 3 questions is 1) no.  2) no.  and 3) no.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

What about in the past? If we read the Old Testament, we see time after time, that God withdrew his protection for the country, when they fell away.

Why should now be in a different?

God said He would not allow Sodom and Gomorrah to be destroyed if there was only 1 believer.  Why would He destroy the United States or Canada?  I'm betting there are quite a number of believers in both countries.

America, acting like Gomer before the eyes of Hosea, will not be destroyed by Abba Yahweh Elohim, only if she comes back to Him even at the last call and becomes repentant. The prospect is, America will have to be shaken first. And if she still goes into perpetual disobedience and betrayal from the present truth, she will surely collapse. Even then, the shaking has to take place first  upon every individual and when such event happens as it is now, we, who believe in our Creator Abba Yahweh Elohim, will rise out of the bondage of the modern Sodom & Gomorrah, which power transcends beyond every conceivable instruments of communication, such as internet or any medium of virtual world. And so we must come as well out of the system of abomination  -  victoriously untouched by any curse or we will be destroyed along with the same evil system of deception and sins of hypocrisy, adultery and profligacy, as much as Sodom & Gomorrah. Let us, therefore, be vigilant, according to the wishes of our heavenly Father.

I don't believe in a God who is love, destroys.

"God destroys no man. Everyone who is destroyed will have destroyed himself." [COL 84]

"God does not stand toward the sinner as an executor of the sentence against transgression; but he leaves the rejecters of his mercy to themselves, to reap that which they have sown. The destruction of Jerusalem is a solemn warning to all who are trifling with the offers of divine grace, and resisting the pleadings of divine mercy."  [The Youth's instructor, Nov 13, 1906]

Matt 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 38 See! Your house is left to you desolate...."

So when God is persistently rejected, through the sin of unbelief, He will not force His love and protection upon His rejecters.  What then does He do?

"Then My anger (which will we see is passive) shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, 'Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?' [Deut 31:17]

Romans 1:8 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God (which is God abandonment), that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them."

God's wrath is not human anger.  God's wrath is His reluctant departure from those who persistently & ultimately reject Him.

America may represent Babylon of the future, a garbage can full of vile, detestable things, a place where every known sin is committed, a place that is destroyed in a single day, and, America also represents the world in Noah's time, an entire planet polluted by evil. Once America's central government is destroyed, other nations may choose to unleash a nuclear inferno from which recovery would be impossible. Christians would be hit hard like everyone else, but with houses full of possessions no longer needed and now searching only for food, water, and shelter, they might seek their Creator in a way not now possible.

Shocked by America's sudden destruction, the rest of the world will lament that there is no one left to buy their cargoes.

I can certainly agree that the WRATH of God is seen when He withdraws from a person, or from a nation - and destruction follows.  But we cannot ignore those commands given by the LORD to Joshua concerning the complete destruction of certain Caananite cities.

Joshua 10:40 “So Joshua conquered all the land: the mountain country and the South and the lowland and the wilderness slopes, and all their kings; he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded.

The LORD would pronounce a city "cursed" (meaning doomed to destruction).  Joshua carried out the command, killing everything that breathed.  No prisoners were kept alive.

Malachi 4:4-6  “Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, With the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.  And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”

The word "curse" in this passage is the same as the "curse" pronounced against ancient Caananite cities.

At the Gog-Magog Battle, the LORD will send fire from Heaven to consume the attackers.  That is not a passive - leave them to slow death without Me - type wrath.  That is direct execution type death.

The God who is love, does both.

God's judgments will be visited upon those who are seeking to oppress and destroy His people. His long forbearance with the wicked emboldens men in transgression, but their punishment is none the less certain and terrible because it is long delayed. “The Lord shall rise up as in Mount Perazim, He shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that He may do His work, His strange work; and bring to pass His act, his strange act.” [isaiah 28:21.] To our merciful God the act of punishment is a strange act. “As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked,” [Ezekiel 33:11.] The Lord is “merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,” “forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” Yet He will “by no means clear the guilty.” “The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked.” [Exodus 34:6, 7; Nahum 1:3.] By terrible things in righteousness He will vindicate the authority of His downtrodden law. The severity of the retribution awaiting the transgressor may be judged by the Lord's reluctance to execute justice. The nation with which He bears long, and which He will not smite until it has filled up the measure of its iniquity in God's account, will finally drink the cup of wrath unmixed with mercy."  {GC88 627.1}

America, the Obama Nation has become an abomination. Christ is not going to fix the US He is going to wrap it up.

Robert's post was right on. God does not punish sin; He already punished Jesus for all of our sins of the world. However, there are consequences to sin.

A parable - A mother tells her child not to stick bobby pins into the electrical outlet or he might get hurt real bad. The child sticks the bobby pins in the outlet anyways and is shocked and burned so badly that he needs hospitalization. Is the kid suffering the consequences of his disobedience or suffering the wrath of his mother? I would say his mother did not punish the child with electric shock and burns; but was probably greatly saddened by her child's distress.

So it is with God. He doesn't punish us; but He may leave us to suffer the consequences of our disobedience. Nonetheless, He is saddened over our pain and distress.

That being said, there IS a wrath of God to be suffered by those who declare war on the church; and persecute and kill the children of the Most High God. There IS a wrath of JoeMo that would be visited on anyone who persecutes and kills my children as well.

Joshua 10:40 “So Joshua conquered all the land: the mountain country and the South and the lowland and the wilderness slopes, and all their kings; he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded.

1. Jesus never addressed His enemies with weapons of war. In fact, He forbade it. Weight this point more heavily than all others combined. (See Matthew 5:43-45; 26:52; Revelation 13:10, etc.).

2. God did not intend for Israel to engage in war on her pilgrimage to the Promised Land (Exodus 13:17; Deuteronomy 1:30-32).

3. God was in no way indebted to Israel's sword for their possession of the Promised Land (Psalm 44:3; Jeremiah 33:26; Deuteronomy 3:22).

4. God gave them flawed instructions due to their hardness of heart (Ezekiel 20:25; Matthew 5:21-48; 19:8).

5. Victory always turned on their obedience to God, not their military might (Zechariah 4:6; 1 Kings 9:3-9).

6. God intended to protect His people through the arsenal of nature, as He did in releasing them from Egyptian bondage (Exodus 23:27-30).

7. When Israel compromised by contracting multiple marriages, holding slaves and demanding a king, He did not reject them for it. He tried to install principles and requirements to make the best of a less than perfect situation, likely following the same procedure in regard to their choice to take up arms (Exodus 21:2-11; 1 Samuel 8).

Of course, Abba Yahweh Elohim, our eternal God, does not  punish sin all because sin is not an animate object of justice. But, those who continue to cling to sin will be destroyed along with sin.

Conversely, God is merciful. And those whose remain in sin would surely have no delight in the new heaven as they will be extinguished for eternity simply because God's glory which serves as the light of His city would just be a consuming fire for the unrepentant and the objector of God's grace. God, nevertheless, will always be loving, no matter what. His perspective of love is never complete without justice in the sense that  He would not want anyone to experience perpetual agony for, in the new world to come, there will be no more tears, no more night, no more pain and no more worries. We, the redeemed by the blood of the lamb, will be translated, if not transfigured, from glory to glory all because of His amazing grace in Yeshua Ha-Masiach. And the objector of His grace will be in our remembrance no more.

Would you choose to cling to sin?

If ever you and I sin, we have Yeshua Ha-Masiach, our defender and our judge whose faithfulness will last forever. he will never forsake us nor abandon us.

Now, would you come to the throne of Abba Yahweh's grace with me?

For the strengthening of my faith in Him, the Holy One, kindly pause and include me in your prayer now?

When the LEADERS of Judah rejected the message of Christ, the LORD sent the message to the Gentiles.

And Jerusalem fell to "the nations".

The "turning away" does not have to involve the ENTIRE POPULACE.

The LEADERS of the nation represent the whole nation in the eyes of the LORD.

Wrath came upon Israel when the LEADERS turned to idol worship.

The LORD still had faithful individuals.

Ahab tried to kill them.  The faithful were in hiding.

The leaders thru Jeremiah into a pit - to die there.

Wrath will come upon the United States, WHEN her leaders pass laws forbidding God's faithful from keeping His law.

We are getting close to that point.

Schools will be forbidden from teaching intelligent design creation, or displaying the word "God" anywhere.

Preachers will be forbidden from teaching one man/one woman "marriage".  (Our language is gradually being changed.)

Christian employers will be forced to pay for abortions, and will be forced to hire and serve those who mock the LORD, practice witchcraft, or other "abominations".

The recent wave of "political correctness" will be used against us, by Muslim extremists, and the LORD will allow it.

Wrath will fall hardest on the LEADERS, but the whole nation/s will suffer - just as Israel did.

American turned its back on God a long time ago:

Legalized abortions= 80,000 v Native American Genocide = (let's be conservative) 10 million

Bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed 135,000 men, women and children in a matter of seconds.

CIA inspired coup's, Support of despotic regimes all over the world.

When God was in schools and public places many Americans could not vote or enjoy simple human dignities. Reading the Bible in school did not bring the nation closer to God it just gave a veneer of religiosity.

Sin isn't just about sex it is about injustice, mistreating the poor, lying (saying its the land of the free when people are not free), using God's name in vain, (saying God bless America as you drop bombs on innocents to further your own economic interests).

Only now has American gone away from God? You're kidding right. This goes for all the other countries in the world too. Not one has clean hands.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Lazarus,

You said it right.

It is true that America has turned its back on God by doing many things that go against what we claim to stand for.

But have we reached the point in time when America will officially declare independence from God?

Though sex is not the only measure of man's fidelity to God, the Supreme Court's June decision on gay rights will compel the entire nation to adopt the standard that the court declares to be the law of the land.

Could we agree that there is a difference between having moral laws and failing to comply with them on the one hand compared to implementing and enforcing laws that are immoral on the other?
