we might be... Canada has some pretty good genealogical records.   :)

My Danish ancestry comes from the Duyts family who lived on the island of 'Strand' west of the city of Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany (then a part of Denmark). Most of the people on this island made their living by deep sea fishing. In 1634 a catastrophic tidal wave nearly destroyed the island tearing it into 2 separate islands and killing 1000's of people.  The few survivors didn't have the strength nor the money to rebuild the demolished 'Deiche' (dikes). The exception were the inhabitants of the former 'Pellwormer-Harde'.

The area where Laurens  Duyts (my 9th great grandfather) lived is now the island of 'Nordstrand'.  Either as a result of the storm or other reasons, Laurens moved ashore; apparently around the town of Friedrichstadt in an area referred to as Nordfriesland. There are people from this family living in that area today using the spelling 'Dyrsen."  Laurens came to America in the 1640's.

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

lots of genealogy sites have Canadian records; I think one of the best is www.ancestry.ca  (the Canadian version of the US's www.ancestry.com )

If you want access only to Canadian records (no US or European), the cost is $9.99/mo.  World access would be $29.99/mo.

(I've got full access to everything available, if someone wants me to look up someone specific, I'd be happy to help..)

Genealogy is fun as you learn not only about your ancestors, some more thatn others, but you also get a history lesson in the process.

There are many site on the internet for Genealogy free and subscription.  I use to have a subscription to Ancestry.com but it got to be too expensive.  But if you have the $ it is well worth it.

The two free sites I use are:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi

and

https://familysearch.org/

(this is the LDS site and has free genealogy software you can download. )

http://www.findagrave.com/

is also a very helpful site

I use Familytree maker software and Mudcreek gen viewer.
