Amelia Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Hospital bar stops patients 'dying of boredom' November 15, 2005 ABC News online A nursing home in Ireland has hit on a cheering way to keep up the spirits of its elderly patients - it has provided them with their own pub. St Mary's Hospital in County Monaghan believes ready access to a good pint may help its patients, whose average age is 85, live longer. "We would say the whole social aspect of life does extend the years - it means the patients aren't bored to death," Rose Mooney, the assistant director of nursing, said. The pub, which opens at 11:00am and closes at 9:00pm and charges normal bar prices, has also led to an increase in the number of visitors.
