Administrators Gail Posted October 18, 2014 Author Administrators Posted October 18, 2014 Can one make peace among others if one does not have peace in one's own life? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Sojourner Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Here is an article from Rabbi Schmuley Boteach which has a view on "peace" and how it is achieved in our world that was not perhaps what I expected him to say! "I just addressed a crowd of 100,000 people on a conference on world peace in Seoul’s Olympic Stadium. Koreans don’t really know Jews. But if you watch the video you’ll see how many Jewish ideas resonated with the crowd. There were seven other speakers, religious leaders from around the world. They spoke of the need for conflict to end and peace to reign. But I emphasized that there could never be peace with a regime like North Korea, which constantly threatens their brothers to the south with nuclear annihilation. There could not be peace with a brutal dictator like Kim Jong-un who feeds his army while starving children. The regime must first collapse from within. There cannot be peace with organizations like Islamic State that revel in beheading defenseless men with their hands tied behind their backs. They would first need to be destroyed from the air. The crowd roared with approval. What they were cheering was not me but the expression of Jewish ideas. They were left cold by the kumbaya message of everyone sitting and roasting marshmallows together – democracies, autocracies, terrorists – and were instead galvanized by the Jewish message that to achieve peace we must hate and fight evil." aka Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 What a most beautiful word! Peace. I love it. It has so many connotations. When I was full time working and going through the day with peace of mind, it was because my conscious was clear before God. And I was confident that the decisions I had to make were the right ones for the duties of the day. The best part of experiencing peace is when singing along in a group, or alone, and a deep insight into the text comes up to mind. Then tears flood my eyes with the reality of God within me, God for me, God guiding me. I am being protected from evil. The peace that passes understanding enfolds me and gives me a sense of well-being. LifeHiscost 1 Quote
aka Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 There are still questions which twirl in my head that ought to be properly answsered.... Is political peace the absence of war or unity in a peace treaty? Did we have peace during the Cold War? Is peace, when we are content, a state of being to be experienced? Can we be at, or in, peace when we hold a grudge against one who sinned against us? Is peace found in a young person who is ear-plug-listening to beat music from his mp3 player? Is it possible to experience peace of heart in calamity? Can we relax in peace of mind and heart when we care for a chronicaly ill child or spouse? Is it possible to walk with peace from God when we are being threatened by outward circumstances of possible violence, loss of possessions or coming death of a loved one? I noticed over the year online a certain saying that seems to have gotten popular in the secular political circles : Quote
aka Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Psalm 4:8I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. Isaiah 26:3Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. John 14:27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Psalm 119:165Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Psalm 34:14Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. Matthew 5:9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Psalm 37:11But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. Isaiah 48:22There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked. Isaiah 57:21There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. Proverbs 16:7When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Jeremiah 28:9The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him. Jeremiah 29:11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Matthew 10:34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Luke 12:51Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division. Mark 9:50Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. Luke 10:5And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. Luke 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. John 20:19Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. John 20:21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. John 20:26And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 2 Thessalonians 3:16Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. Colossians 3:15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Romans 12:18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Romans 14:19Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. Quote

aka Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 I’m one of those conflict free lovers. At best I am relaxed in a situation in which people are pleasant and do not cause trouble. Could that be a cowardly trait of mine? To avoid confrontation? I do so love quiet situations or environment. Especially when not being annoyed by noise of any decibel level, or noise from people. Peace to me can be any state I’m in when I have calm and don’t think on any worries. Jesus was very keen on telling us to cast all anxieties, worries and fears on Him. I think that is very loving of Him to say that often. Alright, I’ll admit that I am a harmony lover. Around me needs be a total lack of violence or conflicting behaviours from another. I can’t imagine a tension free household which isn’t free from the threat of aggression verbally or physically. There are so many marriage counselling programs on telly showing in conversation how hostility and retribution is an everyday occurrence. Peace suggests sincere attempts at reconciliation and reaching the existence of healthy healed interpersonal relationships. Peace to me is tranquillity of mind because there is an absence of hostility and mistrust. Peace I also see as freedom. I am relaxing in the freedom from fear..... freedom from guilt...... freedom from condemnation ...... freedom from loosing what I love. The Hebrew word shalom, according to Jewish theology, comes from a Hebrew verb meaning 'to restore'. Although 'peace' is the usual translation, however, it is an incomplete one. 'Shalom,' which is also cognate with the Arabic word 'salaam', has multiple other meanings. In addition to peace, the word includes justice, good health, safety, well-being, prosperity, security, good fortune, and friendliness. On a personal level among us in our church community, peaceful behaviors are when we show others kindness, being considerate and respectful. Others are expecting us to be just in any dealings and tolerant of their beliefs. I believe we all are tending to wish for manifested goodwill from others. I’m quite sure others are expecting we welcome them in peace and don’t jump all over them with critic and fault finding. Gail and Naomi 2 Quote

Administrators Gail Posted November 16, 2014 Author Administrators Posted November 16, 2014 I LOVE Psalm 119! LifeHiscost 1 Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
aka Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 This Psalm 119 was a bit heavy for me as a young person in my 'twenties'. I was more for living out freedom in Christ than for being under the law as I saw it back then. The Spirit of God worked in me as I visited for a day the Moody Bible Institute which was a Bible School in Glasgow, Scottland. I sat in on a lecture and was in awed to be among the students. I glanced over to my left to the girl sitting at her desk with a few books piled up and her bible was closed but on top. The leaves of the book was toward me. On it she had written in bold ink "Oh, how I love your law". Taken from this Psalm 119. I was horrified. Having been born-again by His Spirit and joining the Protestant community of churches after being conditioned by the RCC for decades, I felt awful for her. I judged her as being a super pharisee working her way into the affections of God. I was soooo wrong. Over the years I matured into a spiritual understanding of how the law of God Jesus was not against. He was against the abuse of the law by the scribes, pharisees, sandherin and those who tried to be Police-watchdogs to scare one into doing the externals to meet approval by the church community and God. I praise God. Now today I can say loudly "Oh, how I love thy Law" and really mean it. As a footnote to Psalms 119: This psalm is an acrostic poem, the stanzas of which begin with successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet; moreover, the verses of each stanza begin with the same letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Now that is real Talent to be able to write in acrostic manner. LifeHiscost 1 Quote
aka Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 And in addition.... I took Gregory's advice and closed the browser I was using as I complained about not being able to see right off any up loaded attachment by Pam. It was Maxthon (a faint Cousin to IE) I opened Chrome, then Firefox, then IE one after the other. All gave me the same non-Picture view. I am still sad about the matter. I noticed also that the edit time is really short. Woe is me when I have put up some Piece in the reply box and got distracted from something my hubby wanted or having to get up and attend the needs of my 11 yr old 'Puddy-cat'. When I come back and post what I wrote it says I don't have permission to post. That's a bad deal. Then I refresh the page and notice that the creepy Software has secretly logged me off. I am still sad about this matter. I am getting paranoid and feeling percecuted by the electronics. Not by the leadership. Perhaps the IP number is bugging the Software. Maybe my number is having a hidden tag alert for potential Terrorist to security of program? So loads of stop-lights turn red when I post? Nawww, I'm just kidding.... --------------- I just came back to edit this. The face attachment is not showing when I reapply the post. Just the number of the .gif Yikers! a slow breakdown of Service.
