one minute they want more openness to the idea of gay marriage - the next they say they would rather stick with the Bible.

Here we have a Jesuit idea that has been tried out many times in the past. I think the synod needs to study that idea out in detail to see if it has merit based on the way it has worked out for them so far.

But the that might not be the 'welcome" that the "Catholic gay-rights group" is talking about. Rather that is probably the 'welcome' the conservative Cardinals were already holding out as a solution.

Which gets us to the issue of punishment for dissenters.

Any media publicity is generally good publicity for any business or organisation... The media are devoted to discussing the Roman Catholic Church, media exposure that would costs millions in advertising if they had to pay for it.

During the next 12 months before the next synod, Pope Francis will have plenty of opportunity to appoint new bishops.  He has tended to appoint liberals to many of the positions that have opened since he became pope, so we can probably expect that the new bishops will also be more likely to agree with him on a number of issues, including this issue.  I noticed that he insisted that the paragraphs that were not passed on the gay issue be included in the final report with the vote tally along side it.  I think he probably did this to give people time to think about it.  The proposed paragraphs nearly passed, so with even just a few new bishops being appointed by next year's synod, my thinking is that he will have the votes needed to pass it, so I think that he will bring this up again next year and he will get it passed. 

 

Based on Revelation 17, I am predicting that eventually he will be deposed, so this will just end up being another coffin nail for him.  the conservatives are not going to lilke the passage of the paragraphs about the gays.

Gentlemen, Try not to be so synical.  There are many among the Catholic hierarchy who know the scriptures and will be true to its truth.  When the time comes many of them will leave the Roman persuasion.  Let us be prepared to meet them with open arms.  Let us keep praying for them.

They should have no struggle about this one or any other subject.  Since the RCC claims the pope to be god on earth and even has the power to change the law of Christ, they should just ask him for his opinion.
