I would suggest you also study Luke and Mark, don't concentrate on just Matthew.  You might find that they have already interpreted the abomination of desolation.  It relates to the the Jewish war which ended in 70 AD.

In Daniel, where the Master Teacher referred to, "abomination" is from the Hebrew #WQvi (shiqquts).

 

As used in the OT, #WQvi refers to idols or images of pagan deities which they worship like, Chemosh, Astoreth, etc. (see 1 Kings 11:5,7; 2 Kings 23:13).

 

There is only ONE (1) image in the whole Scriptures that will cause desolation to the end-time people of God, the image of the beast.

Jesus explained that the setting up of the AoD will trigger the great tribulation, so great that God will shorten its occurrence or no FLESH will remain alive. But for the sake of the elect - the righteous who will remain alive until the 2nd Coming, the days of its occurrence will be shortened.  The great tribulation is called the time of trouble in Dan 12:1, 2.

Tsunami to occur in the great tribulation? Why not? Tsunamis occur because of large displacement of water in the ocean or a large lake, after an earthquake or underwater explosion. Notice the occurrence of a great earthquake under the 6th seal:

I don't think so. I think it happens during a time of relative peace and safety like we are in right now. People are eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. Like Paul was saying: peace and safety: then sudden destruction. The rebellion comes first: then the man of sin revealed. Transgressors reach their limit: then a bold faced king arrives.

 The Daniel verses you quote seems like the 1st century destruction of Jerusalem. Not until verse 36 does it seem to be talking about our end times. Jesus' followers at that time probably could read along and follow all those regional wars until they got up to verse 31 when they knew time was just about up for them to get out of town. I don't think Daniel 9 or 11 is talking about the AofD that Jesus was referring to in the Olivet discourse. I think Jesus was talking about Daniel 8 and 12, the transgression of desolation which goes hand in hand with the taking away of the continual. This one could never happen until after 1844:

  “For how long is the vision concerning the regular burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled underfoot?”

But that's what I think our end time AofD is supposed to be for us. It means that when we see it, it's a guaranteed sure thing indicator that our time here is just about up. Don't worry about your house, your coat or your car anymore. Because fire is about to fall from the sky and burn up a third of the planet. When the world's survivors take in the damage on the day after, they'll surely know that the God of the Bible is back and take quick action in an attempt to placate Him. This will probably be the day that the Son of Man is revealed through His actions and also create the catalyst for the rise and mark of the beast. 

 Take a look here and consider that our instructions to flee after seeing the abomination of desolation in Matthew come right after the mention of the "days of Lot" in Luke 17.

  “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. It looks like they're trying to tell us that the "abomination of desolation"  =  "the days of Lot".

I also checked the duTillet Hebrew version of Matthew to see if another word was used but I'm afraid that the word study won't sway my other evidence. Time will do the trick though.

I just can't see:

In my view, the "image" for the beast will be a carbon copy duplicate of the beast that Napoleon's General Berthier put out of commission in 1798. This is not going to be a statue or figurine of the Antichrist. This will be another composite of a church/state power that will be enabled to persecute God's people just like in the Fox Book days. But whatever the exact detail of this thing is, I don't see it as being the AoD.

 

The AoD happens first, then there will be great tribulation, then the first beast rises and then the second beast tells them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

 

Daniel 11 doesn't say anything about a holy place, does it? I think that's because after the curtain was rent that place wasn't holy anymore.

 

If Samie's view is correct, we may have many years to go. If Dave's view is correct, we may not have the remainder of this year before something happens.

 

At this point I'm not sure we're going to be able to understand the AofD. It might have been put there for God's Glorification that we will marvel over when we get inside New Jerusalem and (let the reader understand).

 

And the land vomited out it's inhabitants (became desolate).

There is also the spreading of the 3 angels messages to all the world that must be shared during those last days that is referred to in Revelation just before the end.

That would be outlined as the 5th, 6th and 7th angels as described in Revelation 9 which indicates at the end of the 9th chapter, those who refused to accept the seal of God and repent were cast into the lake of fire.

The Abomination of desolation is not the USA, it's just STANDING in the USA. The USA is not the beast that rises from the "earth", the beast that rises from the "earth" is our end time Antichrist. The USA IS the "earth" who helped the woman and the "holy place", a place prepared by God that the Antichrist will rise from.

This will probably read like a strange note to post but consider it as a hypothesis. It's probably best understood with a bit of the Historicist interpretation of apocalyptic prophecy so it will be confusing for the traditional Dispensationalists. I understand that the SDA view of the USA is that it's the second beast that rises from the "earth" in Revelation 13. I'm going to be saying here instead that the USA is actually the "earth" who helped the woman from Revelation 12. I also think that Revelation 12:7 to 14:5 is one long prophecy that doesn't stop until chronological order is broken so that the "earth" who helped the woman in chapter 12 is also the same "earth" where the second beast rises from and unfortunately he is our end time Antichrist. I'm also going to say here that the abomination of desolation is now currently standing in the holy place. And if that isn't enough I think this all might be confirmed by the possibility that Jesus is talking about a solar and lunar eclipse in Matthew 24 that will occur immediately after the tribulation.

I believe that Daniel 7 and Revelation 12 are related, and that they share the same prophetic time period of 1260 years. And that also these two books are not understood by the popularly recognized commentaries. I would therefore recommend that anyone Google the names: "Ostrogoths, Heruli, Vandals" as these are most likely the three who were "plucked up by the roots" which began a very important prophetic time period of 1260 years. Then Google the name "General Berthier" as he was most likely responsible for causing the deadly head wound that ended the 1260 year time period. Read all that you can and get an impartial opinion regarding these names and then decide for yourself.

I'm afraid that the first and longest prophetic time period in Revelation's narrative is completed and that we are currently waiting in an intermission between two great Biblical periods of Christian persecution. This prophetic time period is referred to three times in the Bible, once in Daniel 7 and twice in Revelation 12. This big span of prophetic time began just 443 years after Revelation was written in AD 95 and came to it's conclusion after 1260 years of Christian persecution in 1798. That's when Napoleon's General Berthier arrested and took pope Pius as prisoner back to Valence (France) where he, after a torturous journey under Berthier's supervision, would die in a jail cell a few days latter. The Vatican would remain closed for business with a mortal head wound until Mussolini agreed to reopening it in 1929. This head began a healing process which will ultimately come to a completion when the beast rises from the sea, the Vatican will regain civil authority and one of his heads will have been healed.

The first nation on the planet complete with a "Bible belt" was to be born when it was previously illegal to be caught with one. In 1776 America was founded and would become a safe place for God's people to own, print and study their Bibles. Prior to this in the dark ages of Europe, entire villages of Christian men, women and children had none of these religious freedoms and were burnt at the stake more often than not for reading or owning their own Bibles. This was the dragon chasing the woman and these estimated 75 million or more Christian martyrs would become the 5th seal souls beneath the alter. Lucifer was the hand that used the early church like a glove which hit the woman very hard during the middle ages. The founding fathers of the USA made sure that church and state were separate, America! America! God shed His grace on thee.

I kept getting stuck on the idea that the temple mount has ceased to be the "holy place" since the day that the curtain was rent. So what I did was to relax my criteria and consider other possibilities for what might be a "holy place" in our appointed time of the end. If the Roman army could be considered to be standing in a "holy place" because the earth surrounding the city wall was the land given to the Levites by God, there might be other "holy places" that we've overlooked. After all, the NT Script does NOT say: "when you see the abomination of desolation standing in the temple".

"Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so. - Joshua 5:15

Most haven't recognized the U.S.A. as the holy place but when God does a thing it becomes holy, rather than the thing being holy so that God does it. Like when the "ground" became holy for Moses and Joshua. America became the earth who would help the woman in 1776 and at the same time the holy place established by God as a refuge from the persecutions of the church in Rome. And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God.

What I think ultimately makes the fourth beast so different and exceedingly terrifying from the first 3 was not it's iron teeth but it's strange alliance of church and state, who can make war with it? So I don't think that it's really just Rome or a revival of the holy Roman empire that we need to be concerned about. It was how this unholy alliance between church and state morphed into a monster beast that had absolute and corrupt power over so many people. In the 1500's you had a guy like Martin Luther that wasn't always safe and on some occasions running from the stake in his own home country. But one of the most bizarre stories I found was the exhumation of John Wycliffe who they didn't manage to catch alive, so they dug him up and burned his dead body. That's what you call true hatred and I'm sure that this dragon hates our guts. But this monster beast will not have been healed until these things begin again.

Known as “The Morning Star of the Reformation,” John Wycliffe was a 14th century theologian. He is probably best remembered as a translator of scriptures. He was persecuted for his stand against Papal authority. While he was not burned at the stake as a martyr, his persecution extended beyond his death. His body was exhumed and burned along with many of his writings. The Anti-Wycliffe Statute of 1401 brought persecution to his followers and specifically addressed the fact that there should not be any translation of Scripture into English.

But then the woman, God's people, were given the two wings so that she could escape from the dragon to the place prepared for her. Like a solid rocket booster on the space shuttle Discovery, wing # 1 was used up during the 1260 years of papal persecution from 538 to 1798. Wing # 2 is still burning it's propellant pending the beast's 42 months of end time authority. But we are not the woman in the wilderness anymore, we are the offspring of the woman, who keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus, with whom the dragon is preparing to make war with.

"Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring—those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus.

It's important to understand that there's two great Biblical prophetic time periods of Christian persecution. The 1st is the woman from Revelation 12 which took place over 1260 years in the Fox Book style and the 2nd is the 42 month period from Revelation 13 that will involve the rest of her offspring. These two prophetic time periods are separated by an intermission where the dragon becomes furious and prepares to resume the war on the offspring. We have been living in a cease fire between these two great periods of Christian persecution. I think this is also supported by the "souls beneath the alter" being told to rest a little longer until a second group of saints would be gathered to join them.

Why this is so important to piece together is so that our generation can understand that "a place" which is prepared by God would by default automatically become the "holy place" and without this realization we will never recognize the abomination of desolation standing there. So many people are looking the other way to the middle east and for another temple to be built that maybe they don't really want to recognize it, so I find it fascinating to see it standing right here in our own back yard where it ought not to be.

Notice here how Luke 17 replaces the abomination of desolation with the days of Lot. Remember how in Matthew after seeing the abomination of desolation we are told to flee and not come back to collect our belongings.

Notice again in the Luke version how those same instructions come right after the mention of "the days of Lot".

Luke has exchanged the "abomination of desolation" for the "days of Lot". Why? Are the Bible writers trying to give us a hint here? Just like it was in the days of Lot when fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed the Sodomites. That sounds to me just like saying when you see the days of Lot again you can stick a fork in us because we're almost done here and head for the hills.

"And at the latter end of their kingdom,
when the transgressors have reached their limit,
a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise.

Think of it like the "abomination that makes desolate" is when the "transgressors have reached their limit". Notice a Divine "limit to transgression", it's the kingdom of the transgressors not the kingdom of the 4 horns. This is not talking about a specific nation or kingdom, but instead is referring to the prevailing number or group of world wide transgressing individuals. Are we now living at the latter end of the kingdom of the transgressors when they have reached and exceeded their "limit". Is it a particular transgression itself that makes desolate like the last straw and this causes the "taking away of the daily" by Jesus in Heaven's Temple that starts our tribulation clock. "Abomination" just means a despicable act, so it's a despicable act of the transgression of God's Word that makes desolate. Make sense?

"And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away,

set up,
there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

“So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel,

These are just some news articles and sayings that I've Googled to help address the language and show the usage of the phrases. How a law can be "set up" and a decision can be made to "stand". And I found it most important to see the Bible's use of the phrase "set up" relating to the rule of law.

Think of "Judah" as in "Lion of the tribe of".

Did the days of our Appointed Time of the End begin on June 26, 2015 when the abomination that maketh desolate was "set up" and is now "standing" in the "holy place"? Was the "daily" taken away in Heaven's Temple, in the True Tent was our Restrainer taken out of the way? Are the 144,000 being sealed and can Divine Wrath begin in the form of trumpet #1 at any moment?

On Friday June 26, 2015 the United States became the 21st nation on Earth to make legal same sex marriage. It's an incredible thing to consider that this law which was "set up" and is now "standing" in the "holy place" (where it ought not to be) could actually be our sign to evacuate the cities.

Leviticus 18:

22You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
23And you shall not lie with any animal and so make yourself unclean with it, neither shall any woman give herself to an animal to lie with it: it is perversion.
24“Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, for by all these the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean,

So is this just a case of some guy trying to make the Bible say whatever he wants it to say? Or is this it? Are we there yet? I'm not sure.

In exactly 1290 days after June 26, 2015 when the United States became the 21st country to make legal same sex marriage, there will be a solar eclipse followed by a blood moon when the moon will not give it's light. These two celestial events also have a sort of unique spacing of days with the solar and lunar eclipse that were part of the tetrads that we've passed through.

I think that it is triggered and that we are already into the 1290 days. I'm afraid that the 2 Thessalonian 2 rebellion has already occurred, the AoD has been recently set up and Paul's man of sin has taken his seat. The next thing on the son of destruction's list is to cause fire to fall from Heaven in the presence of men, trumpet #1.

"Woman" is symbolic for God's people or the church. "Jesus" is the One beloved by God's people, they being the "woman" here. Think Bride of Christ.

They have "seated themselves".

He will "seat himself".

Moses was the teacher of the Law, the Word of God. He was long gone when Jesus said this so the Scribes and the Pharisees had really just taken over his job or his "seat", which was Moses' place in the Temple of God. Our end time Antichrist has taken over God's job by influencing the shift in morality and the trend in increased lawlessness. "Anti" can also mean "in place of".

God said: "You shall not murder", "Remember the Sabbath" and "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination".

Antichrist says: forget about the Sabbath, legalize pornography, legalize abortion, legalize same sex marriage and have a sexual revolution.

When the Stern faced king seeks to change these times and these Laws, he by default has magnified himself above all that is called God or is worshiped and has set himself up in God's "seat" of authority thereby claiming to BE God. "Worship" comes from the word "proskuneo" and can also mean to "submit to" or "to obey". And he has been at work on this for a long time using various human agents but make no mistake it has been Lucifer's hand inside the glove.

I know that this is a stressful subject for most to confront. I'm just thinking out loud here but I'm thinking that this is what is happening right now with our end time Antichrist. His 42 months of authority has begun but he's in a predicament. He can't be revealed until the 5th trumpet, so he's been working continuously and as fast as he can behind the scenes to cause the rebellion to reach and exceed it's limit. This is how he is able to rise up to the Prince of the host, to the Place of His Sanctuary. He knows the sooner he completes this task the sooner that the sudden destruction will fall from Heaven which will enable his debut. He is trying to get the censer cast down from Revelation 8. Is this how he causes fire to fall from Heaven in the presence of men? Through influencing the rebellion on Earth he provokes the initial outbreak of God's Wrath in the form of the first trumpet. And I do believe he has ultimately been successful in the setting up of the AofD. But I can't see him slowing his pace even until the day that he finally causes fire to fall from Heaven in the sight of men.

He would surely be aware that the fallout from the first four trumpets will not only be the catalyst for enabling all the world to wander after the beast but also for the beast's mark, the Sunday Law, the formation of the ten kingdoms and all of the other unfathomable events in Revelation's narrative. At the sounding of the 5th trumpet Lucifer will be allowed to manifest himself in our visible realm again as he once did back in the days of old. He once was (visible), now is not (visible) and will become (visible) again and go to his destruction. The majority of the populace will do whatever he tells them to do. He will tell the world to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. This image will be a carbon copy of the church and state entity that persecuted God's people during the middle ages but this time it will be on a global scale.

I think that "for then there will be great tribulation" that Jesus was talking about in the Olivet is going to begin during the last one third of the 1260 day span which is 420 days in duration.

But we are not in darkness brother, for that day to surprise us like a thief.

A third of your people will die of the plague or perish by famine inside you;

A third will fall by the sword outside your walls; and

A third I will scatter to the winds and pursue with drawn sword.

They will KNOW that it is the Lord who has spoken, they will know that the God of the Bible is back. How they all react is a completely different issue.The wicked are rebellious. They want to continue in their sins. They will curse the God of Heaven who sent these judgements. They will not repent.

The trumpets are very specific in their destruction. This specificity is God's handy work, God's Signature. These are not random meteor showers and so should not be expected to fall as such. Ask yourself, would God tell us to flee into the wilderness and then hit our wilderness locations with the Trumpets, while having mercy on the downtown sin cities. Some of these cities are also the capital locations that have approved the transgressive laws which helped to get us to where we are now. When they are destroyed, the ten kingdoms will quickly take power.

When the world's survivors take in the death and the destruction that was inflicted on the planet they will certainly know that the Lord has spoken in His zeal. The Son of Man will be revealed through his actions. Surviving leaders of governments and religious organizations will combine and will quickly take measures that are intended to appease or placate God so that His judgements will stop. They'll think that if they don't do something, God is going to kill them all. It is in this environment of emergency that the beast and the ten nations will rise up out of a perceived necessity. Worship will be demanded, coerced and legislated for all those who inhabit the face of the whole earth. The time will have come when by killing us, they will think that they are offering a service to God.
