Moderators lazarus Posted November 11, 2014 Moderators Posted November 11, 2014 "Interesting snippet of Ben Carson, states the problem for Sabbath Keepers will come from the right not the left." Do the supporters of Carson agree with him on this point? Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted November 11, 2014 Administrators Posted November 11, 2014 It is interesting that the attention on Ben is now beginning to focus on his religious beliefs, the fact that he is a Seventh-day Adventist. I have just read two different commnetaries on that. One paints a fairly accurate picture of us, the other doesn't. The one that doesn't seems to want to frame us as a cult and both draw attention to the similar obstacle of faith that Romnie's campaign suffered from. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Moderators lazarus Posted November 11, 2014 Moderators Posted November 11, 2014 Can you post the link to those commentaries? I'd like to take a look. I have a gut feeling that Carson may not hold all the traditional Adventist doctrinal positions. I have no evidence, just a feeling. I have a gut feeling that Carson may not hold all the traditional Adventist doctrinal positions. I have no evidence, just a feeling. I would think that would be a plus to many SDA's on this forum Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
joeb Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I'm not sure what the problem is with suggesting that Carson did this to get elected. Not splitting the conservative vote makes sense of you want to get elected. If he remained "independent" he had no chance of being elected. I think he has no chance anyway but he is doing what he needs to do to get elected. What's the problem with it? It ignores what Dr. Carson himself has to say about why he registered as a Republican. Suggesting his reasons are other than what he said they are is accusing him of lying with no evidence to support the accusation at all. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted November 15, 2014 Administrators Posted November 15, 2014 Really now! Why are you so determine to see this as some sort of problem or that anyone is accusing him of anything sinister or devious or wrong. Nobody is suggesting he is lying except you if he is doing this to get elected. Really now! Why would he be doing it to make it harder to get elected? Whatever he does from this day forward, if he actually declares he is running, will be calculated precisely to position himself to get elected. Otherwise, why run at all. It's not fun. It costs a pile of money! It has great risks. If he does run he is not going to do so with the intent of not getting elected. This is just one step on the path to be electable. You seem to fail to understand the simplicity of of the point and what Ben meant by talking about splitting the vote. Splitting the conservative vote between an independent conservative candidate and the Republican candidate pretty much guarantees that neither will win the election. To win in these very close elections you have to consolidate all the conservative votes under one party if any conservative hopes to win. Ben can't get elected unless he joins either one of the two major parties. And neither he nor any other leading conservative can win if either runs as an independent against the other. He would not only not garner enough electoral votes as an independent but he would siphon off enough votes to prevent the Republican candidate from winning either. The Democrat would win the electoral votes for president. The only way Ben has any hope of winning is to run as a Republican. So he joined the party because he doesn't want to split the vote which would insure he could not be elected. Not splitting the vote is the only path for him to be electable. So to prevent splitting the conservative vote he needs join the Republican Party, win that primary, I order to have any chance of being elected.doing anything to prevent that deadly split is an action take to be electable. We are not saying anything contradictory to what Ben said. We are just explaining why not splitting the conservative vote is all about becoming electable. Do you understand it now? Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
