Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 7, 2014 Moderators Posted November 7, 2014 A REVIEW article suggests that the Pope has been widely misquoted in the media as to what he said about creation. joeb Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 And what business is it of the Review to "clarify" the statements made by the pope? If the pope thinks he has been misquoted then its his responsibility to make sure he is correctly understood. So far I have heard nothing along that line from him. That tells me he doesn't have a problem with how his words have been reported. Sojourner 1 Quote Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.Alexis de Tocqueville

Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 7, 2014 Author Moderators Posted November 7, 2014 While the Pope does speak English, I doubt that he has read much of the English language reports on his speach. rudywoofs (Pam) 1 Quote Gregory
joeb Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 because it has been made an issue by a few SDAs who seek for any nuance as an excuse to proclaim the "evilness" of catholicism... I don't buy that. Why? Because the church has not historically gone around making proclamations because of what individual church members say. If they did that's about all the official church would have time to do as Adventism has always been a collection of individualistic thinkers and not all of them always agree with, or care to go along with, the church's official position on any given subject. Plus, it's always been a sort of unofficial policy that church is not a top-down institution. Every time it's tried that it has gotten into spiritual trouble. For instance, that's how the church came to reject righteousness by faith for so many years. I would hope they are not going back in that direction for everything in a Christian's life is between them and God, not them and the church. Sojourner Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 While the Pope does speak English, I doubt that he has read much of the English language reports on his speach. I am pretty sure the Roman Catholic Church have enough minders and media monitors to focus on this type of thing and to relay what needs to be communicated to the vicar of Christ. Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 8, 2014 Author Moderators Posted November 8, 2014 Why should they spend their time reading that Internet article and telling the Pope about it. I am reminded of an Adventist who moved to a new area and shortly thereafter, the local RC priest visited Rome. Immediately that Adventist proclaimed that the priest was so disturbed by her moving to the area that the local priest had traveled to Rome to ask the Pop-le for advice as to how to deal with it. Frankly, the staff of the Pope has much more on their minds as relates to what is happening in the world at large, in the RC Church than to spend their time thinking about the SDA Church. Way to twist my reply. The pope speaks for himself. He always has. I don't see any reason whatsoever for the Review to try to make his words palatable to SDA's. His words are what they are. The Review should just leave the whole thing alone rather than insert itself into something that has nothing to do with the Review or the church as a whole. You may be surprised. The SDAC is about the only Protestant church that has not capitulated and remains a thorn in the side of Rome. Quote
