Detroit: Why You Need to Go Now

Currently undergoing a major transformation, Detroit is the little big city that has the drive to be the next comeback kid. Here are seven great reasons to put Motor City on your must-visit list.

I don't make bucket list's, but I've been to Detroit, and I'd say it would definitely be a place I would go.

Detroit is the 6th most violent city in America.  Violent crimes include murder, forcible rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault.

I've lived in the Detroit area almost my whole life. I went back in 2012. I went into the city. The first thing I noticed, is where are all the people?

The place is deserted compared to what it used to be. The city in the year 2000 had a population of about 900,000 people. Never mind what the official census said.

Now I estimate to be less than 300,000.  Until 2009 I did ministry in the city. In 2008-2009 traveling in the city, you see block after block that has been abandoned, and the vegetation has taken over.

I remember the city very clearly from years ago. Neighborhoods packed with houses and people.

There are so many things not reported, that outsiders just don't know. The Arabic people are taking over the city. The city of Dearborn borders the city of Detroit.
It is the home of the Ford Motor Company. The world headquarters in many of their offices are there. But the city has been taken over by Arabic people.
Muslims and Chaldeans Catholic. They have rebuilt the whole city. It's very nice. All new roads, businesses very vibrant.
But Dearborn cannot hold them all. So they are overflowing into Detroit. Fixing up buildings, fixing up roads blocked by block.

Some of the stores in Detroit are owned by black people. Custom wheels shop, some clothing shops, things that cater to the black culture.
But the vast majority of stores are owned by Arabic people. All grocery stores, all gas stations, restaurants, and other service businesses.

At this point, there is still black leadership in the city of Detroit in many areas. But when the Arabic leaders take control of the city Council, and many of the departments, I expect to see vast improvement.

I do believe the city will be reborn. The suburbs surrounding Detroit will not be rebuilt. They continue to suffer greatly.
The business climate is so bad, I saw full buildings bulldozed, in major intersections because they could find no tenants.

In the last five years they have repaved the freeway system in metropolitan Detroit. You can drive almost anywhere at rush hour, full speed.
There's no traffic. There's never traffic. The metropolitan Detroit area used to have a population of about 6 million people. It's less now.
 
Church members I know in various churches are homeless. Some living out their car. Many churches have lost 70-80% of their members, because they've moved away.
Evangelism is doing very well in metropolitan Detroit.

I think if people were to visit there, they would be in a state of shock what they saw. It's a Third World country now.
