Robert Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Matthew 5 tells us that we are the light of the world. What does that look like to you? In other words Christians should reflect Christ as they rest in His finished work of redemption. What does it look like? I don't know because I still have not found a group of Christians who are doing what they claim (see Rev 12:17) However, this will not always be: Paul declares that “all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”2 Timothy 3:12. Why is it, then, that persecution seems to slumber? The only reason is that the church has conformed to the world’s standard and therefore awakens no opposition. Religion in our day is not the pure and holy faith of Christ and His apostles. Because the truths of the Word of God are indifferently regarded, because there is so little vital godliness in the church, Christianity is popular with the world. Let there be a revival of the faith of the early church, and the fires of persecution will be rekindled. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted November 16, 2014 Author Administrators Posted November 16, 2014 Good stuff! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted November 16, 2014 Author Administrators Posted November 16, 2014 Robert, I think a hint was given by Christ Himself when told the people to, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven" Matt. 5:16 The light would be there in spite of ourselves. It has to be if people who see it are to glorify God after seeing it. Robert 1 Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Aliensanctuary Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I see the Light of the World as the acts of kindness and unselfishness done whenever the opportunity arises, so contrary to the greed, intolerance, and acts that harm or kill others with no concern for the victims. Random acts of kindness are like lights at the end of a long, dark tunnel. It was Jesus' acts of kindness and healing that awakened a new hope in the downtrodden. Why is it, then, that persecution seems to slumber? Perhaps some observation of that persecution might be more obvious if the view were from some of the countries making up the bulk of the body of Christ throughout the world. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/09/christian-persecution_n_4568286.html Christian Persecution Doubled In 2013, Reports Annual Survey By Open Doors Reuters | By Tom Heneghan Posted: 01/09/2014 10:27 am EST Updated: 01/23/2014 10:53 am EST God is Love!
