Black Activists Speak Out against Obama Amnesty Agenda
by transparent.pngDavid W. Almasi | transparent.pngNov 21, 2014 at 1:16 PM

As the potential harm of the President Obama’s amnesty bid for possibly more than 5 million illegal aliens residing in the United States becomes clearer, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are continuing to speak out against his unilateral action to try to remake America.

P21JoeHIcks.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSIJoe R. Hicks, former executive director of the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference:

P21DemeriusMinor.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHE

President Obama strode into the White House promising to give the American people the audacity of hope.  What we are witnessing instead, with his immigration agenda, is an audacious grab for power and an evisceration of the Constitution.

Having kicked the can down the road, obviously refusing to ruin his own chances for re-election in 2012, and tap-dancing on the issue until after the 2014 mid-term elections, Obama now disdainfully punches the amnesty card for upwards of five million illegal residents with the knowledge that almost half of all Americans polled oppose his maneuver.

With the stroke of a pen, Obama rewards those who arrogantly mock our border laws while simultaneously telling those hopeful immigrants still waiting patiently to lawfully come to America that they are chumps.

After these five million or so, what then?  The magnet that draws illegal immigrants across the border just got stronger.  They will come expecting, — no, demanding — to get “Obama’s amnesty.”

In 2010, defending his inaction on immigration issues, Obama said, “I’m president, I’m not king.  I can’t do these things just by myself.”  That’s all changed, and the Constitution lies in tatters as a result.

Demetrius Minor, youth minister and motivational speaker:

P21StacyWashington2014.JPG?__SQUARESPACEStacy Washington, talk radio host:

Barack Obama really had the potential to be an iconic president.  It’s a shame he’s now relegated to someone who will be remembered most for not only dividing a nation, but for circumventing Congress in order to push his personal agenda.

P21CharlesButler.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHECharles Butler, talk radio host:

Well, black liberals, sorry — but I have to put you on blast.

Every time this country has pardoned illegal immigrants, crime and black unemployment have gone through the roof.  Don’t believe me?  Check the statistics from Reagan’s congressionally-approved amnesty package.  Not only did three times as many illegal immigrants as were promised become legal through the undiscovered intricacies of chain immigration, but the crime rate soared and black unemployment went through the roof.

Sorry again, black liberals.  You just got dumped!

The fact is President Obama will do with the stroke of a pen what 300 years of slavery, Jim Crow and legal segregation could not: destroy the hopes and dreams of millions of black Americans.  His position on illegal immigration and reform is not tenable given the numerous sources of information that warn of the negative impact of immigration reform on black Americans and low-income Americans.

P21ChristopherArps.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACChristopher Arps, founder of the black social networking web site Move-On-Up.org:

Mr. President, how do these people “get right with the law” when you have to break the law to allegedly get them right with the law?

Ronald Reagan and George Bush used executive orders to tweak immigration law, but it was within the framework of the 1986 Simpson/Mazzoli amnesty law that was passed by Congress.

As a student of politics and history, I’ll unfortunately be able to tell my grandchildren that I lived through America’s early 21 century experiment with a lawlessness extremely left-wing president.  This man — a self-professed constitutional scholar — is so brazen that he’s openly violating the Constitution he swore to protect.  And he’s doing so just a few years after he said he didn’t have the authority to do what he just did on immigration.

Unbelievable!

P21ShelbyEmmett.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVShelby Emmett, lawyer and former congressional staff member:

I wish Obama would focus just ten percent of his time on Americans and not illegals.

Since this all about rewarding people who chose to put their kids in a position where they’d be “ripped” from their arms, why isn’t Obama suspending family law as well?

Plenty of American parents lose their kids on a daily basis over silly things like breaking the law.

Earlier this year, Project 21 issued six “DataReleases” on immigration in recent weeks, covering the major issue areas of jobsfairnesshealthpublic schoolsrefugees and history.

Project 21 released statements from members opposing the Obama amnesty plan immediately after the President’s remarks on 11/20/14.

Odd isn't it. With 93%? of the black vote going for Obama and any and all that speak out against the actions of this president and  not be called names and villified is quite a change.

If this were a list of white conservatives how many would be yelling racism?

Not quite what I said. However more black voters turned out than ever to vote. Had it been possible to have to equal democrat candidates running ,one white, one black the overwhelming numbers would have voted for Obama.

Nor can anyone deny the calls of racism would be deafening if this list were of prominent conservative white activists

Yes,I believe given a choice 'they" would have voted Obama. The chance to have a black president and the belief that Obama would do something special for the black community.

What evidence do you have for that? Do you think the white people who voted for Hilary in primary voted because she was white?

What evidence did I claim to have? I base that on the significent higher number of black voters when Obama was elected. That  and many articles I have read indicating that the black voter expected something from Obama,a black president they didn't believe a white president would provide for them. those that voted for Hilary Clinton were liberal democrats that preferred Hilary.

I didn't vote for Romney because he was white

Of course you didn't. But you seem equally certain that you know all those black people would be racially motivated. Nothing racist in that perspective...

I don't suppose you have figured out what must be the deal with those six black people shown above.

You draw whatever conclusion you are comfortable with. Doesn't make the slightest difference to me.

When the number of black voters increase in substantial numbers from 2004 to both elections of Obama I don't believe it was a sudden attack of patriotic fervor. Nor the many interviews I have watched, news articles I have read or the discussions I have followed that have had a very high number of black participants. Pretty hard to come to another conclusion. There was a high expectation that Obama would do a lot to help the black community. From the silly ninnies that were delighted they got a Obama phone to the really silly nitwits that thought Obama would fill their gas tanks and pay their mortgages to the more intelligent that expected a black president to provide jobs ,education etc at someone else's expense.

Any black conservative was trounced.

As to the six people shown above I assume you know them and they have told you what the deal is.

For me,I believe it to be exactly as they stated. I realize they are not in the same camp as the illustrous Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton  but they reflect what many white and black  citizens are saying

So lets look at the numbers:

from 2004 over 2008

18-24 demo

African American increase 8%

Asians 6%

Hispanic Demo 6%

25-44

African American 4%

Asian 7%

Hispanic 2%

Contrary to your prejudiced conclusions it seems like Asians and Hispanics felt Obama had policies and a perspectives that would benefit all people. What stats did you use to draw your conclusions? Do you feel Asians voted in such increased numbers because he was black? You seem to like to gorge yourself on all the racial stereotypes about black people and regurgitate them here.

But you were apparently drawn to this particular article and focused on it to the exclusion of any other perspective and chose to post only this particular article focusing only only black people critical of Obama. Why is that even relevant to the debate over immigration? What does it contribute in any beneficial sense to the debate? It is born of a racist focus on Obama as a black man losing favor with his own kind, quite consistent with your own belief that the only reason any black person would support him is simply because birds of a feather stick together. Not very flattering of the intellect of black people is it? Even the term in reference to them as "activists" gives it a spin in a biased direction not complimentary to whatever it is each may actually be doing.

You can try to make any word a racial slur if you choose. If it works for you,so be it. To me, ninny is a foolish woman, regardless of skin color or nationality.

No,never connected the word ninny to any racial slur. Nor did I intend for it to be short for picaninny. Actually I didn't focus on the more spurious other than a mention as that was very common at the time. More to the point there was an expectation of more substantial help/aid etc from those that voted for Obama. You can deny that all you want but worsening of employment conditions for the black community is frequently mentioned.

As Latino's were not part of the article there wasn't any reason to mention them

Poll: Many Latinos Disapprove of Obama's Executive Amnesty Katie Pavlich | Nov 19, 2014

A new NBC poll shows Latinos do not overwhelmingly support President Obama's decision to thwart Congress on amnesty through executive action.

Nearly half of Americans disapprove of President Barack Obama’s expected plan to take executive action that would potentially allow millions of undocumented immigrants to stay legally in the United States, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Latinos are divided, with 43 percent supporting the action and 37 percent opposing it. But the sample size here is small (just 110 Latino respondents), so the numbers have a high margin of error.

There's just a six percent difference in Latinos who do and do not support the President's plan to rewrite immigration law with an executive order. Notice how NBC was sure to add a note questioning the numbers due to a small sample size, ignoring that the margin of error could also result in more Latinos being against executive amnesty.

Despite what the media would have us believe, immigration reform is often at the bottom of the priority list for Latino voters and a majority want enforcement before a comprehensive overhaul.

By a margin of 56 percent to 40 percent, Hispanic voters oppose allowing illegal immigrants to obtain federal benefits, including Obamacare benefits, “while they are going through the legalization process and before the 90% goal is reached.”

When asked to choose which of four issues — the economy, immigration reform, education, or health care — is most important to them, registered Hispanic voters said immigration reform was their lowest priority. Just 31 percent ranked the issue first or second, compared with 62 percent for the economy, 57 percent for health care, and 45 percent for education. Non-registered voters, on the other hand, ranked immigration reform as their highest priority.

Generally speaking, registered Hispanic voters were far more likely to support tougher security and enforcement measures than non-registered voters. For example, 64 percent of registered voters said they supported employment verification to determine if job applicants are lawful residents, compared with just 46 percent of non-registered voters. Additionally, 55 percent of registered voters backed increased border-security measures (fencing, drones, police, etc.), compared with 45 percent of non-registered voters.

Regardless, President Obama is moving forward and will announce his plans for executive amnesty Thursday night at 8 pm et in a prime-time address from the White House.

I think what I said that concerned not caring was the implication/belief that I was racist. You claim my use of the word "ninny" was a racial slur. That simply isn't true and I am not going to be overly concerned  with your claim that it is. Trying hard enough a slur or something negative can be found by those looking for a way to be offended. I gave you the dictionary definition which does not back up your claim of a racial slur.

And as so often you seem prone to do you continue to use derogatory and demeaning and insulting characterizations of black people that tend to diminish and dehumanized. (You do realize that "ninny" is regarded by some to be a racial slur, short for picaninny, a term akin to calling a black man "boy".)

You objected to the word activist. Why is that a negative? Had this been written by "white activists' it would have been dismissed and used to describe it as racially motivated,as any disagreement or objection to Obama is. Claiming all those that are white are racially motivated that  speak out against Obama is alright?

Are those listed in the article racially motivated?

Or could they possibly have an opinion that is as valid as yours regardless of skin color?

Had this been an article written positively by black activists condemning those that disagree as racially motivated, would that have been alright with you?

Look it up here - http://www.fact-index.com/l/li/list_of_ethnic_slurs.html  I don't make this stuff up.

Some things are so deeply embedded in the culture, habits and language that people become seriously tone deaf to what they are actually saying.  That you were not aware or just insensitive to these deeply embedded pejorative terms is endemic to white society.  That you seem not to care only reinforces the racial insensitivity that creates barriers that too many willingly continue to hide behind.  Taking the time to listen and learn is a first step toward change.  Not caring to be informed is also not caring if one is insensitive.  That is a part of the problem - simply not caring.

It really is ironic that the conservative blogger you have posted in the OP titles her piece including the word "activist" in reference to these black conservatives.  For the pejorative sense of the word, go back to the negative criticism of Obama when he first ran.  Focus was on his community "activism" in Chicago.  Those opposed to him and raising that as an issue were not characterizing him as such as a compliment. Sort of how conservatives use the word liberal as a curse word.  Nothing wrong with that word on an literal and objective level.  But coming from someone who hates liberals, it is meant as an insult. But I go back even further than that when the leaders of the civil rights movement  were activists, agitators, trouble makers.  An activist is not code for a reformer or one seeking to improve society when offered from those determined to oppose change, progress or reforms. It is intended as an insult to someone who doesn't know their place and is stirring up trouble. Very specifically, I recall a race and sex discrimination case early in my career.  The term "activist" was a specific word used with regard to the plaintiff that was involved in a black social organization and a feminist group.  That characterization of the plaintiff as an "activist" by one of the defendants that had allegedly taken adverse action against that person was cited as evidence of the bias on both sex and race against the plaintiff.

There wasn't the slightest intent to use "ninny" as a racial slur" I have never heard it used as such. If you are of the opinion that it was, that is your privilege.

Because a word was at one time or another used in a negative manner, does not make it a racial slur.

Ninny was used exactly as stated in the dictionary meaning, nothing more, nothing less. Anyone can root around and inspect each word to see if it was ever used in a negative context and I am sure it will be found.

Would this also apply to those making the most negative assumption and accusation without at least clarifying what someone else meant? Nah, doesn't serve the purpose nearly as well.

It reminds me of some Bible texts about speech, the need to be careful.

Ninnyhammer is first recorded from the late sixteenth century. Its origin isn’t altogether clear. The first part, ninny, looks like the word we still know today, which is thought to come from a shortened and modified version ofan innocent, because innocent at this time could mean a person lacking in intelligence or sense, who was silly, half-witted, or imbecilic. However, it’s far from certain from the dates when they were first used whether ninnycomes from ninnyhammer or the other way around. The second part is less obvious, but might be from hammer-headed, which could also then refer to a person who was dull-witted or stupid.

Seems the word ninny has been around for centuries without racial connotations. Absolutely no racial slur intended or considered. You will find it if that serves your purpose and is what you are looking for
