Yep, been there done that! Experienced all of them at one time or the other. Not always so bad though...

Heavy drinker... On one international flight I was in an upgrade business class seat and my seat mate had already taken advantage of free booze and had 2 or 3 drinks before dinner was served. Dinner came with an individual bottle of wine (12oz). I gave him mine and he drank both of them, plus an after dinner liquor. He slept almost the rest of the long flight.

Families with small children... I very much prefer an aisle seat, typically as far forward as possible. I have found that in the open boarding on Southwest since families with small children are pre boarded, they often seat toward the front and often leave the aisle seat open and everyone else walks on past the prospect of screaming, wiggly brats. Perfect! It is like they save that aisle seat in the first few rows just for me. I will take that risk. I like kids. And Apologetic Mommy is relieved that it won't be a problem. And if baby decides to howl, I put my sound deadening earbuds in and crank up my music. It's all good! Once I even ended up sitting with the same family (Mom, Dad, and two little kids) on a return flight that I had sat with outbound a few days earlier! They were in the same seats and were quite surprised to see me willing to sit with them again!

I'll never forget the 3hr flight sharing my seat with a corpulent woman. She was too fat to have the armrest between us down, so her blubber kind of oozed up against me. I could have asked for another seat, but I didn't. She really should have bought two tickets.

AS, I've heard of Airlines that have made it  a policy that anyone over a certain weight need to pay for two seats. Also have heard of that at ballparks.
