I came across an interesting statement on a learn to speak hebrew page I found. The statement was that - "Jesus was and still is Jewish".

Is that the case? clearly Jesus was raised and lived as a Jew and it is recognised that a person is Jewish if their mother, in this case Mary is Jewish. So, would it be reasonable to still regard Jesus Christ as still being Jewish?

You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

The plan of salvation was laid down before the foundation of this earth. The shadows of the substance of salvation was in the God given laws of Moses. All the way up to the resurrection of Christ the Jew. Don't forget, He was the substance of the shadows taught and referred to in the old Testament. Now we are in the benefits of the new Testament. The Jewishness of the symbols have been revealed in verity of the God incarnate man Jesus Christ.

Yes, Salvation is of the Jews and Jesus was a top-knotch impeccable, sinless Jew.
And still is. We believers are the body of Christ and we are referred to as spiritual Israel of today. That inadvertedly makes us symbolic Jews, too.

Hebrews 13:8  "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

1John 2:6  "the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked."

In a sense, yes, I agree with the others, Jesus is still Jewish.

When He took on humanity, He took it upon Himself for eternity. The physical features He inherited through Mary are upon Him to this day, and Mary, with the others, will recognize Him when they see Him again. And even in terms of His personality, the life that He lived as a man in this world, had enduring, [i would say, eternal,] results. His incarnation effected Him for ever.

But I would also say (not to negate what I've said thus far,) that Jesus was never really what might be termed "Jewish". In many ways He was a stranger among His people.

Jewish was a nationality, and a tribe, and a religion.

The religion of Jesus day had been corrupted with traditions and laws which the LORD never ordained.  In that sense, Jesus was NOT a typical "Jew".

Today, "Jewish" is a formal religion which specifically denies that Jesus the Son of Joseph was  Messiah.

"Jew" denotes one of a race (Hebrew), and of a nation (Israel), and of a Tribe within that nation (Judah).

All of this He still is.

"Jew" also denotes one of a specific religion

The original Torah commands Christ kept - perfectly.  He thereby will inherit "the land" and we will share in HIS inheritance.

The religion of Judah was corrupted.  Christ was NOT of THAT corrupted religion.

The religion of Judaism today, requires that one deny Jesus the Son of Joseph as Messiah.  Jesus is NOT of this religion.

So before you can answer the question posed, you would have to DEFINE what the questioner MEANT by "Jew".

I really do not see why this should matter??? This Jew thing is so misleading and it is going cause a lot of people to loose their souls. YAHSHUA came and was born to an ethnic group who were Semitic and Hamitic, which many seem to forget! HE came to save mankind and Adam and Eve was not Semitic, Hamitic or Japhetic. That's when the promise was made, Shem descendants were chosen to birth the MESSIAH so what HE came. I am so sick of this Jew this and that if you read your Bible, the Canaanites were call first, they did obey and then Abraham was call and his children and they to were removed and now the Japheth have the message and they two like all of Noah's descendant have been giving a chance, now all people of all ethnic groups will have to come together and finish the work. That is what the Bible says and what I believe!

Upon resurrection, or if I should live til the second coming, will I stil be considered a USA citizen? Or a woman? Course with the second I realize there are two different schools of thought. But thrown in for those who believe as I do that we will "neither marry, nor give in marriage".

And ultimately, of what relevance in heaven or earth does it have if Jesus is still Jewish or not? Of what benefit is it to anyone in heaven, or here on earth whether Jesus is Jewish, black or purple?

Start talking to active Christens of today who are  believing Protestants why they keep Sunday as a day of worship.

Most will reply with "We are celebrating the resurrection day of Jesus Christ". Then ask them on whose authority they are doing so.  Then when a well versed one among them goes a step further they'll start including verses of Galatians and Hebrews. Colossians 2 commanded the church not to allow anyone to act as their judge in regard to sabbath days. And Galatians 4 warns against going back under the Law by insisting on the legal requirement of special days.

"But with Jesus’ atonement, we are no longer required to keep the Law. We are not under Law, but grace (Rom. 6). The Sabbath is fulfilled in Jesus. He is our rest. The book of Hebrews testifies to that." This statement is what I've heard the most from my Christians friends.

Then they'll bring up Romans 14 talking of each to his own conviction.

Or Col. 2 Sabbath rest is a shadow but Christ fulfilled the substance.

If any of us are to remain good SDA apologists then we need to harbour a very clear answer to these texts. If Christ fulfilled the substance of the shadow of 'rest' as a lot in Hebrews points to, we need to be firm in saying why so to Saturday keeping -apart from the writing in stone of the 10C's.

The Jewishness of Christ will always remain because of our understanding of the Jewish symbolism taught in the O.T. He fulfilled these symbolisms. Even Revelation book shows Jewish symbolism in relationship to Jesus the Christ.

Yes, He is and remains Jewish because of the spiritual nature of true Jewishness symbolism relating to the substance of the Christ.

In the documented history of Christianity there were periods when leaders like Constantine put a lot of effort into removing the traces of Jewishness from Christianity.  Those efforts were largely successful.  In a sense, they re-created Jesus in their own image-- handing down to us a perception of Jesus that is "comfortable" for Gentiles.

Today, when Christians think of what it means to be "Christ-like" most people base their ideas on that de-Jewish-ized image of Jesus.  There is virtually no realization that Jesus was holy, according to God's definition of holiness laid out in the Old Testament.  Few people realize that being "Christ-like" includes living as Jesus did according to God's instructions in the Old Testament.

At the same time as Christians were distancing themselves from things Jewish, the Jews were distancing themselves from Christianity.  So both groups have distanced themselves from the Messiah.

For me, the issue of whether Jesus remains Jewish is not about his race or whether he followed the man-made traditions of the Jews.  What is important is whether those who claim to be followers of Jesus accept Jesus as he truly was, or if they are content with the pale man-made image of Jesus stripped of the Old Testament truths of God's Word.

Jesus as God never changed, but our humanity that He assumed and thus became "the Son of Man" changed just as we will be changed.

Keep in mind two texts:

"For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed."

"For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry , nor are given in marriage ; but are as the angels which are in heaven."

Ellen:  "I saw the little ones climb, or, if they chose, use their little wings and fly, to the top of the mountains and pluck the never-fading flowers."

So Jesus, as the Son of Man glorified, isn't Jewish.

This is true being a Biblical Historian, but we  are forgetting that they were call Israel which means to overcome as Jacob did. We also forget the fact a mix multitude also came out of Egypt. I prefer to call these people Hebrews instead of Jews the name the Roman Gentiles gave them as well. There is lot to learn as I stated before. Our message of the 2300 day prophecy concluded that Israel had 490 years to get their act together, they didn't! When YAHSHUA walked the earth the nation as a whole rejected HIM and put HIM to death with the aid of the Romans. The stoning of Stephen mark the soon coming doom on the Hebrews and first in AD 70 the Temple was destroyed, million died and the nobles were disperse. It happen again in the third century and more were carry and disperse. The Gentiles now would learn about YAHSHUA but they brought in even during Paul's day the mysteries religions of Egypt. After the apostles died and the Gentiles took over Palestine along with the Arabs by the dispersion of the  Romans, the once held name call Nazerenes died and a pagan name emerged call Christians by the Greeks. Various sects broke off and Constantine seeing by the most part the ancient beliefs had taken over what was once the truth by the Nazarenes. Constantine saw in this new name Jesus by the Greeks was similar to Mithras who he worshiped and the Catholic Church was formed! The written records and manuscripts of the Hebrews Matthew, Mark a black Hebrew, Luke a converted Greek Doctor, John the beloved all were destroyed. The Hebrews were written off as the killer of the Gentiles Christ or Christo and the new revise pagan religion is accepted by the Western world today! If you really want to know the truth, I would advise all to please read your history because what is taught is a lot of cover up in all the churches!

So Jesus, as the Son of Man glorified, isn't Jewish.

That doesn't seem to follow with the rest of what you stated.  The fact that the redeemed will be changed doesn't say anything about whether Jesus is still Jewish.  If he's still the Son of God and the Son of Man, wouldn't he still be the son of Mary, his Jewish mother?

Jesus was Jewish when he received the scars of execution.  He still had those scars in his Jewish flesh when he showed them to Thomas who had doubted what the other disciples told him after the resurrection.  I think Ellen White states that Jesus will still have those scars in his flesh when the redeemed talk to Jesus after the second coming.

He is the Son of God, but He is no longer the Son of Man. As the Son of Man He no longer shares our "flesh".  He is now the last Adam (humanity glorified) and the Son of God.

As to scars...I bet I won't have my scars on my body in heaven.  Those scars on Christ will be there as a reminder of the terrible results of sin.....

I am wondering whether this thought might be of interest here. (It comes from an earlier study.)

I suggest that when the Father said to Jesus, "Thy throne oh God is forever and ever" (Hebrews 1:8), He taught the perpetual Divinity of His Son.

It is a mystery that Christ can be 100% Divine and 100% human, but this, I believe, is an eternal reality. A great Mediator can understand the position of two "contending" parties... and such a Mediator can be seen to understand them both, and to relate to them both. This, I believe, was a critical part in the plan of salvation with regards to Jesus' role in it. And yes, Jesus became such a Mediator forever.

____________________________________________

But perhaps another thought from a different angle.

Physically, the features that Jesus inherited through Mary, will stay with Him for eternity; and in this sense He will be human forever. (Even though His physical form is now glorified, and the atoms composing His form today, are not the same as those that formerly gave Him substance.)

An aspect of our resurrection is described in the following words, but this resurrection will, I believe, follow the same principles manifested in Jesus' personal resurrection:

"Our personal identity is preserved in the resurrection, though not the same particles of matter or material substance as went into the grave... The same form will come forth, but it will be free from disease and every defect. It lives again bearing the same individuality of features, so that friend will recognize friend."

Again, I repeat YAHSHUA was not a Jew!

The Etymology of the Word "Jew"

In his classic Facts are Facts, Jewish historian, researcher and scholar Benjamin Freedman writes:

Jesus is referred as a so-called "Jew" for the first time in the New Testament in the 18th century. Jesus is first referred to as a so-called "Jew" in the revised 18th century editions in the English language of the 14th century first translations of the New Testament into English. The history of the origin of the word "Jew" in the English language leaves no doubt that the 18th century "Jew" is the 18th century contracted and corrupted English word for the 4th century Latin "Iudaeus" found in St. Jerome's Vulgate Edition. Of that there is no longer doubt.

The available original manuscripts from the 4th century to the 18th century accurately trace the origin and give the complete history of the word "Jew" in the English language. In these manuscripts are to be found all the many earlier English equivalents extending through the 14 centuries from the 4th to the 18th century. From the Latin "Iudaeus" to the English "Jew" these English forms included successively: "Gyu," "Giu," "Iu," "Iuu," "Iuw," "Ieuu," "Ieuy," "Iwe," "Iow," "Iewe," "Ieue," "Iue," "Ive," "Iew," and then finally the 18th century, "Jew." The many earlier English equivalents for "Jews" through the 14 centuries are "Giwis," "Giws," "Gyues," "Gywes," "Giwes," "Geus," "Iuys," "Iows," "Iouis," "Iews," and then also finally in the 18th century, "Jews."

The Online Etymology Dictionary describes the etymology of the word 'jew,' but perhaps because its editor is not a Bible student it exhibits an ignorance of the meaning of the original Greek word Ioudaios derived from the Aramaic jehudhai which did not refer to members of the tribe of Judah but to Judeans, the residents of the Babylonian province of Judea. The spelling of our present-day English word Jew is a transliteration of an abbreviation or slang word coined by their Babylonian conquerors for Judeans without reference to the race or religion of the captives. The editor has inadvertently discriminated the Semitic tribesmen of the sons of Israel from the diverse mass of races and religions then resident in Judea by applying the incorrect colloquial idiom, not having recognized the true and Biblical meaning of the original words.

Most refuse to read history and to research for truth, instead we accept what our preaches tell you. You need to do a fact check like they do for politicians with ministers!

You think you know when you don't and when you are lost don't blame anyone but yourself! Technology, online is available to us all but you have to research!

Hello Stinsonmarri,

You wrote: "Again, I repeat YAHSHUA was not a Jew!"

Would you prefer that we refer to Yahshua as being a Hebrew? Was that the faith He represented or was Hebrew a political connotation? Or was being labeled Hebrew a blood DNA inheritance matter?

YAHSHUA was and still is a Hebrew man from the Semitic people. The Hebrew people do not exist today if so show me one. I can show those who actually call themselves Ashkenazi and this name come from Japheth:

The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.  And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. Gen 10:2-5

Then Noah prophesied that Japheth children would dwell in the tents of Shem!!!

Elohim shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. Gen 9:27

I believe in the 23 hundred days prophecy, do you?

He was a Hebrew and Paul wrote a book called Hebrew know what was taking place in his day. I suggest many of you need to go back and under the 490 years in the 2300 day prophecy. This is what we base our message on and it is what I believe!

I know to many Jewish Scholars (Messianic) that say otherwise. Not trying to argue, but we do know that Jesus is part of the God head, so in that respect I agree that Jesus is no longer a Jew and actually as God the Son, was never a Jew. As Jesus Christ he most definitely was a Jew or Hebrew as the Jewish Nation was originally known as.

Most of the people who are called "Jews" today are actually the descendants of the Khazar nation which occupied the land between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. They experienced a mass conversion to Rabbinic (Talmudic) Judaism in the 8th century AD/CE.  This was in response to pressure from the surrounding Christian and Muslim nations.

There may be many reasons for the mass conversion, but just like the conversion of Constantine a few centuries before, there were strong political motivations.  Stuck between two opposing empires - Christian and Muslim - but not wanting to be subject to either one, nor wanting to incur the other's wrath, the Khazarian King Bulan chose the middle ground: Rabbinic Judaism.
