Officials at the Lincoln City Seventh-Day Adventist School at 2126 NE Surf Avenue confirm that a 9th grade female student who collapsed while jogging Tuesday, Dec. 16, has passed away. Gale Crosby, the Seventh-Day Oregon superintendent, said the child suffered a medical issue. "Our hearts are breaking as our school family faced a devastating tragedy today," Crosby said in a statement released at the school Tuesday, Dec. 16. "During PE class this morning, one of our 9th grade students collapsed while running. Our staff who was present administered CPR until the paramedics arrived shortly after. She was transported to the hospital where she passed." The child's name has not been released. Crosby said the school has contacted resources which include school counselors. The school will remain open the rest of the week with an on-site counselor available for students, staff and parents. "We are sending additional resource materials to our school families," Crosby said.
