Just got thru viewing the documrntary "Downsize this" by Micheal Moore.

Summed up, the documentary shows various companys, who make billions [yes, that is with a "B"], close plants and take them to mexico [or elsewhere] where lower wages can be had for relatively the same knowledge base.

The result is that when the factory plant closes, and those 1-3000 workers loose thier jobes...thier benefits, the country/states need to pick up thier medical/vision/dental. It is documented that when people are idle, crime goes up. If there is no jobs, then there is illegal jobs, ie crime.

The onus is on the companys who send thier profitable companys to other countries, whose cheap labor and totarlian regiems are supported by US companies .These countries kill thier own citizens if they disagree with the current goveremnt. What is amazing to me is that these company NET billions, and yet they still outsource the company/factory to "compete"...

Take Nike...It's CEO was urged to start a plant in Flynt, Michigan....Even after showing him a video of people who were willing to make shoes, the CEO refused to look into it any further as he didn't believe that "Americans are not interested in making shoes."....

Now, having said that, I know that I am prolly being percieved as an way out weird liberal....But it seems to me that if a company is NETTING ten of millions of dollars, and it decides to outsource overseas, that there should be some sort of penalty on this against this company.

It also seems to me that this documentary has NOT told all the facts so that I can make a rational decisions over this.

What do you think? Have you seen the movie "Downsize this!"? and if so, whatcha think of it?

Haven't seen that movie. Is it in general release?

Michael Moore is controversial, but there's no denying his factual research.

Obviously our country should impose some type of restrictions on U.S. corporations when they outsource their work to foreign countries, to the detriment of U.S. citizens needing employment.

Yeah, it's available at your local DVD/video store. Blockbluster should have it.

I will admit that some of his views are skewed....I don't agree with a lot of them....But sometimes his view point is compelling.

His view that people of Flint, Michigan are willing to make shoes, kinda dashes the arguement that "Americans don't want to make shoes." of Nike's CEO. My question is that if Flint, Michigan can make them as cheap/marketable while paying the workers $10/hr with benefits?
