I find the requirement of "Faithfully returning tithe" to the conference somewhat disturbing, as I view that as an invasion of privacy...

 

**I'm not saying a person shouldn't tithe -- I just don't think it should be a public matter...

It is a growing trend not to hire someone to work for the Church who isn't willing to support it with tithe.

so, potential employees need to submit their financial records for proof?  that would be the only way to prove they are actually submitting a tenth of their income to the church...

It is standard practice for people employed by the denomination to be required to return tithe.  In an earlier time, some denominational employees had their tithe deducted directly from their paychecks.  That is not now done for employees paid by U.S. organizations.

 

However, employees are not required to submit financial information and to prove that they pay a so-called "honest" tithe.  Rather, the denomination knows what their denominational pay is, and has the ability to determine if their tithe paid is representative of their denominational pay.

 

Actual enforcement of this policy varies greatly.  My personal opinion is that it is not enforced more than it is enforced.  But, I could be wrong.

As a personal response to the job requirements that Pam has listed.  I have some concerns.  I expressed those concerns to Conference staff this morning in an e-mail that I sent at 4 AM.  A senior leader in the RM Conference has responded to me.  He believes that I have raised a valid point and informed me that it will be discussed.

 

In consideration of privacy, I will not identify my concerns.

 

My point is:  Church leaders can be responsive to concerns from members that are appropriately raised.
