Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 24, 2015 Members Posted January 24, 2015 it might not a universal truth, where it is true for everyone, yet is true for some... Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
LifeHiscost Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 That what you believe to be true is not actually false? “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” ― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity “[To have Faith in Christ] means, of course, trying to do all that He says. There would be no sense in saying you trusted a person if you would not take his advice. Thus if you have really handed yourself over to Him, it must follow that you are trying to obey Him. But trying in a new way, a less worried way. Not doing these things in order to be saved, but because He has begun to save you already. Not hoping to get to Heaven as a reward for your actions, but inevitably wanting to act in a certain way because a first faint gleam of Heaven is already inside you.” ― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity God is Love! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Moderators Bravus Posted January 24, 2015 Moderators Posted January 24, 2015 "How sure are you? That what you believe to be true is not actually false?" I'm not 100% sure, because I'm always open to new evidence. Most of the things I believe are supported by a lot of evidence... it would take a lot of evidence, or a massive re-interpretation of the existing evidence, to challenge those beliefs. I guess I'd say "I'm sure enough to be going on with". I'm sure enough to function. I believe that all the pieces of my motorbike that need to work to get me around this corner fast will do their job - if I didn't believe that, I couldn't ride around the corner. In the end, it's the same with most things: we just have to go ahead and live. We have to act. We have to act in the absence of certainty, so we do. If we have honest reservations, Jesus is willing to give us the evidence that will motivate us to accept the Truth, though it might not be the wisest demand we make.upon Divine forebearance. 25So the other disciples were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." 26After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."…27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” 28“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed. 29Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”....John 20 God is Love! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Lauralea Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I am sure about the broad picture of truth because we have also a more sure word of prophecy. Not always sure I have every detail of my life in order with it though. For example, I could exercise more faith in my life. Quote Behold what manner of love the Father hath given unto us.
