The first phase is, we are saved, the second is, we are being saved and the third is, we will be saved. The first phase is all God. We have no power to perform the first act of salvation because it involves justification. The second phase needs our cooperation because it involves sanctification. We have to cooperate with God's saving work being performed within us. The third phase is glorification, which takes place at Jesus' second coming. This is basically the byproduct of the first two phases. Can we make void the saving work of God in our lives? Yes. Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. Glorification comes as the crowning work that God demonstrates to us and all Creation He has restored us to that vital life-connection back to Himself. Being participatory in God's salvation is rewarded at Christ's second coming. Philippians 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. We more or less just have to cooperate. We have no power to perform the first act of salvation because it involves justification. Christ has justified the human race in Himself by His doing & dying. Received by faith this becomes justification by faith. "In Christ" we then stand "justified", "sanctified" and "glorified". See 1 Cor 1:30. All this we have in Christ now and in the judgment. You cannot add to this. Hence it is a finished work. The second phase needs our cooperation because it involves sanctification. We have to cooperate with God's saving work being performed within us. Those who are resting in Christ's finished work produce works of faith, not works of the law (self-righteous works). If the believer is depending upon what Christ does in him to gain heaven then justification by faith becomes meaningless. The church in Galatians taught that Christ's imputed righteousness was insufficient and that Christ's imparted righteousness must by added. Hence justification (imputed righteousness) plus sanctification (imparted righteousness) equaled salvation. Paul called this "another gospel" because it not the true gospel. The true gospel teaches that "in Christ" I stand before God's law "in Christ" perfect, now and in the judgment plus nothing! What then are the function of "works of faith" (sanctification)? Sanctification proves our faith, not our righteousness. If our faith is "in Christ" and our position "in Him" then we will produce fruits that are free of self-righteousness. If our faith is partially "in Christ" and partially in our works our fruits will be polluted with self-righteousness. The latter proves our faith is not really "in Christ", but in our performance. Such works will condemn the pseudo-believer in the judgment. The third phase is glorification, which takes place at Jesus' second coming. This is basically the byproduct of the first two phases. Glorification is where we receive our new, glorified lives that already is in Christ Jesus as we speak. See Eph 2:6 & Col 1:13,14 Quote

Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but the who shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name have cast out devils, and in thy name have done many wonderful works? 23. And then will I confess to them, I never knew you depart from me, you who work iniquity. Works of iniquity or works done by the flesh are works done in order to merit or gain heaven partially or fully. These are depending on their performance and not the finished work of Christ, of which the Sabbath is a sign. Quote
