I wonder if part of this isn't just because of the fashion of our time. When my wife and I go shopping, most of the nice outfits in most of the stores show a lot of "skin". Since the rest of society is buying it, wearing it and looking nice in it... It isn't that hard for a Christian lady to buy and wear it too.

I have noticed at my own church that many of the ladies are dressed in what most Christians would call sexy clothing.

HAH! You think YOU have problems? Try THIS on for size: try having an 18-year-old daughter who is mentally handicapped. That's right: 18, and even though small for her age she is now too large for any kind of children's clothes and must wear "Junior" (young lady) sizes.

Now imagine attempting to go shopping and find anything that will fit her properly that looks appropriate for her age, is comfortable (dress/business type things are out, fabrics must be soft for her or she won't wear it) and does NOT look--excuse me--"slutty". In case you haven't noticed lately -- though from your posts I'd venture to guess you have -- it's nearly impossible.

I kid you not -- I hit about every single store in the mall, even plain old "department" stores like Penneys, and couldn't find a SINGLE thing that fit what seemed to be two very simple parameters: she likes blue, and she likes things with pockets. Everything I saw for young ladies her size was provocative.

Now you folks on this board know me -- you know I'm not the type that's easily shocked or even remotely conservative. But there's no way I want my mentally handicapped daughter -- a 4 year old trapped in an 18-year-old's body -- running around looking like she's "available".

I'm not so sure uniforms curb cliques, jealousies, envies, and social rivalries. Just look at Japanese culture. They wear uniforms in school and have done so for decades, and they have one of the most competitive social atmospheres among school children in the world.

Kids will be kids, and cliques, jealousies, social rivalries, "in-groups" and "outcasts", etc. is all part of what they do and will continue to do ... uniforms or no uniforms.

Trust me -- the kid who doesn't fit in now because his shoes are considered "dorky" or his pants are too short, will be just as picked on and pushed out in a uniform. They'll find SOMETHING to hassle him over -- whether it's the quality of his loafers or how neat the crease in his slacks is, or WHATEVER. Having uniforms won't make a BIT of difference there.

I'm NOT saying uniforms don't have benefits -- studies have shown, in fact, that they do. I'm just saying they don't solve everything -- and neither does the uniformity/conformity they represent.

Hey Nico, I can understand. I have a friend with a child who is mentally about 6 but the body is a teen. The girl cant understand that the clothes she wants to wear (cute little girl stuff) wont fit her. And she doesnt like to wear grown up clothes that do fit.

I don't know what your financial situation is but if you can afford it, a taylor may be able to help you. I have almost all my pants taylored. Levis is the only company that makes pants that fit me right. My wife has a lot of her dresses taylored too.

A taylor os seemtress should be able to make or modify clothing to to fit whatever size you need. They call also add pcokets and ruffles or whatever.
