Detroit Muslim assailant will not be charged with a hate crime

This past week a Detroit man who is a Muslim stabbed two people at a bus stop after asking them if they were Muslim. The stabbing part came after they responded that they were not.

After the attack, law enforcement was viewing it as a possible hate crime and the FBI was contacted to get involved.

But it has just been reported that the man will not be charged with a hate crime. Now the story goes something like this, per a local news report at MLive:

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper didn't charge a Detroit man with a hate crime after it's suspected he stabbed two people at a Southfield bus stop, possibly motivated by religious hate.

Nick Loussia, Deputy Chief of Police for the Southfield Police Department, said the suspect, 39-year-old Terrence Lavaron Thomas, "is Muslim, and asked the victims what religion they were" before allegedly attacking them.

He's charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and possession of marijuana.

Oakland County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Paul Walton said the evidence doesn't support a 2-year felony charge of ethnic intimidation, although investigators are still interviewing witnesses.

Walton said an argument started over "bad breath and bad teeth" before it "deescalated to a physical altercation."

"At this point ... I'm not hearing anything that is going to monumentally change any of the charges," Walton said.

The FBI is looking at the case also to see if any federal hate crimes were committed.

Say what?

Law enforcement continues to stand by the original report that the Muslim attacked the non-Muslims after they responded to his question regarding religious affiliation. Then suddenly the issue of “bad breath and bad teeth” pops up.

That certainly is a new defense argument for the record. Dental jihad?

In any case, it sounds as if the FBI is still investigating, but one can already see the direction this is going.

It is Detroit, after all. And this is Obama’s America.

Thomas Lifson adds: Don't forget that following the challenge of Turkey's President Erdogan, President Obama rushed to condemn the killing of three Muslims in Chapel Hill, where there is no evidence of a hate crime, although the alleged assailant is a militant atheist.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

A man has been arrested and charged with hate crimes for "anti-white" attacks in Central Park last week. Morningside Heights resident Edward Fall, 20, has been charged in two incidents in which he and a group of people allegedly shot pellet guns at white joggers in the park.

Lol, you're getting all sophisticated now. You want an analysis of the data? That's more like it. Let's see if anyone has done that kind of work....., sometimes coming to sound conclusions takes intelligent thought and analysis.

So at least you will withdraw your inference that only white people get charged with hate crimes? Right?

No not only white people but it is rare to see a black on white crime get the racial hatred spewing that white on black crime.

I don't recall any black on white crime that Eric Holder and Obama came out and strongly condemned. When has Eric Holder wanted the type of investigation and I am sure hopefully prosecution of a black on white crime?

Being charged for a hate crime is different from actually going to trial for a hate crime.

???

Not sure what point you're trying to make.

Be careful how you tread in these discussions... Just because there were no charges doesn't mean it didn't happen, but likewise it also doesn't mean it did and no charges were filed. I live 50 miles from Detroit but have worked close to the area for years. The racism in the suburbs is real. I've seen and heard it first hand. I'm white and have a few black friends, and while it's rare, I've seen how things could escalate quickly. It comes from both sides, but the hate I've seen from whites against blacks is definitely real and far reaching.

With that said, never, EVER, belive what the media is presenting as facts. Michael Brown is a perfect example. Even after it was revealed that he instigated the attacks after robbing a store, the media still was reporting it as a white officer shooting and unarmed black kid. He was not a kid, nor was he unarmed since he grabbed the officers gun and tried to wrestle it away from him. The media is always going to run the story with the slant that gives it more eyes.

The most likely scenario was that this was not a an attack based on religion but the media wants you to think that way.
