I came across this bit of trivia today.  This shows the most "selective" college for each US state, meaning the college with the lowest acceptance rate.

Some are not surprising:

  • Massachusetts – Harvard University – 6%
  • California – Stanford University – 6%
  • Connecticut – Yale University – 7%
  • Maryland – United States Naval Academy – 7%
  • New Jersey – Princeton University – 7%
  • New York – The Juilliard School – 7%

But the schools in Alabama and Florida were surprising, as both are SDA schools:

Alabama – Oakwood University

  • Location – Huntsville, Alabama
  • Acceptance Rate – 34%
  • Number of Applications Received – 2,728
  • Total Undergraduates – 1,966

Florida – Adventist University of Health Sciences

  • Location – Orlando, Florida
  • Acceptance Rate – 13%
  • Number of Applications Received – 2,110
  • Total Undergraduates – 2,576

Kinda sad that so many want to attend the Adventist schools, but get rejected.... it makes a person wonder what happened to those who didn't get accepted... (I know -- some will go to other schools, but I imagine there might be a substantial number who don't...)

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

well  that is  interesting ----both  the  colleges  in   ALABAMA   AND  FLORIDA    higher  rates that   the  others   listed

the fact that the SDA colleges of Oakwood Univ and Florida's Adventist Univ of Health Sciences have higher rates than Harvard, Stanford, etc, totally misses the point, dgrimm.

The list represents the college within each US state with the lowest acceptance rate.  The fact that one US State has a higher acceptance rate than another is irrelevant..

I suspect that many of those applications came from students who applied in hopes of receiving a scholarship. They apply to 4 or 5 different schools and then choose a school based on what they can afford and their projected return on investment. Tuition at Adventist universities is expensive compared to in-state tuition at state universities. While many students hope to attend Adventist schools, they simply can't afford it.

I had that thought about the scholarships, as well.  It would be interesting to see a research study to track the students who applied and were not accepted by the schools.  It would also be interesting to see the criteria for acceptance.  I know of a number of mediocre students who were [probably] accepted at LLU medical school based on who their parents were, or who recommended them... because it certainly wasn't due to their C average grades...
