Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted March 5, 2015 Moderators Posted March 5, 2015 The following article was written by a professor at a University I once graduated from. I find it of interest. But, it should be kept in mind that the man is not speaking of a SDA school. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/free-649991-speech-university.html Samellasogs 1 Quote Gregory
Aliensanctuary Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Charlie Hebdo might have been tolerated more if Islam was only a small, tolerant religion, but due to its worldwide influence and fanatical following, ridiculing its "prophet" brought risks. Too bad for the lady who arrived late for work and unlocked the door for the gunners. Controlled by political powers with a specific agenda, I suspect that America's ideal of freedom of speech will eventually no longer exist, and those who would speak their minds will do so at great peril. Moderators lazarus Posted March 6, 2015 Moderators Posted March 6, 2015 I would also suggest that there are different kinds of standards applied to different people. Maurice Sinet, 80, who works under the pen name Sine, faces charges of "inciting racial hatred" for a column he wrote last July in the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo. The piece sparked a summer slanging match among the Parisian intelligentsia and ended in his dismissal from the magazine. "L'affaire Sine" followed the engagement of Mr Sarkozy, 22, to Jessica Sebaoun-Darty, the Jewish heiress of an electronic goods chain. Commenting on an unfounded rumour that the president's son planned to convert to Judaism, Sine quipped: "He'll go a long way in life, that little lad." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/4351672/French-cartoonist-Sine-on-trial-on-charges-of-anti-Semitism-over-Sarkozy-jibe.html Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
