Right near closing time I had a non-SDA customer in to look at our Bible selection. And he told me that the other (bigger, fancier) Christian bookstore in town had only 2 KJV bibles for him to choose from! He has been telling his friends that our store has a better selection of Bibles for studying, friendlier salespeople plus better prices How could I tell he was non-SDA? By his choices in study Bibles. He likes the Dake and ordered the Common Man's KJV, which I'm pretty sure is a privately published one. He also wanted a Bullinger's Companion. He was open-minded enough to have a look-see at our Academy Bible with Strong's numbers in the verses and noticed the EGW study notes. On my recommendation he also previewed the NET Bible and ended up purchasing it for $70. I really enjoyed our conversation... He had the most interesting things to say about what happened before Creation... I am hoping that he trusts our taste in versions that he will try one with the EGW notes. I really think he would be blessed. In the meantime I will try to get him his Bullinger's Companion and the Common Man's KJV. What is happening with him is that he studies the Bible with his roommates and says he butts heads with the people at his church because they with their NIVs bother him for preferring the King James. interesting! aka 1 Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Being male, my voice would probably be a big giveaway to the clerk. Not that I am at all interested I purchasing one, but I wonder if there are any LGBT Study Bibles out there yet. That is a refreshing change from that of some of our ABCs, which may be one reason (there are other reasons also) why we are in trouble in this area. Well , it is interesting because some of those of the powers that be want us to narrow down our SKUs and focus on the Adventist material. That is, of course, our main focus. Having said that, when it comes to Bible versions I like to accommodate anyone who is into serious study and I like to provide them with a good selection of Bibles, not just what is the going thing at the moment. I find that much of what comes out in mainstream Christianity is faddish, has a short shelf life then is dead stock. I love conversing with non-SDA serious Bible students. I believe that the study Bibles that our published by Seventh-Day Adventists are quality books, but I like also to be aware of other scholars that SDAs can also benefit from. I am so glad for our people who enjoy the work of scholars. It is because of this that I have something of value to offer those of other denominations. If I had known that the ABC was by a Target I would have looked for it. At one time the Potomac ABC was the largest Christian bookstore in North America. I would gladly sell you a Bible with women's study notes. And I do believe there is a gay Bible although I don't have one. That is one of those items, like the Bullinger's Companion Bible, that we wouldn't stock but would order in upon request. Some of the items on our shelves are there for research purposes, ie- we carry a few Catholic versions (we also have Catholic customers but Bibles are as far as we go in the way of Catholic materials) Getting back to women's study Bibles, I do have one published by Oxford University Press that has notes relating to women's issues. I am not sure if it can now claim the title of the largest, at least in terms of square footage of the store.At the time it opened in its current location it was perhaps. They have since subdivided their space by approximately half. The other half is now occupied by Staples.
