Igakusei Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Every time I hear someone say something like that about Fox (e.g. that it's the only way to get the full story that the 'liberal media' leave out), I'm reminded of the advice: "If someone you know is a jerk, they're a jerk. If everyone you know is a jerk, you're the jerk." There are many many media sources, ranging from far right (nationalreview, wnd, Drudgereport, etc.) To left (alternet, dailyKOS, huffpo...). In between you have bigger things like Fox on the right and MSNBC on the left, but if you put all of the solid non-fox sources like economist, NY times, washingtonpost, financial times, csmonitor, etc. in the 'liberal' camp, then I think you're the one with the poorly Calibrated compass. If you're talking about just TV news, it's mostly sensationalized [censored] regardless of what station you're watching. Most of the seem more interested in entertaining than in providing anything resembling thoughtful, reasoned analysis regardless of what political party you prefer. I don't see CNN as liberal so much as just bad. Tom Wetmore, Jeannieb43, JoeMo and 3 others 6 Quote I believe in life before death

I wonder whether perhaps we can find some new and different sources of topics and views... Not trying to silence anyone, just suggesting that continuing to try to lead some of us horses to the stagnant water is probably not increasing the incidence of drinking it... Not trying to silence anyone huh? Really? It seems to me that just because you don't like a source, Fox News, you dislike the message. Most of what makes it onto Fox can be found elsewhere, but Fox is a central, readily available, source for the conservative viewpoint. That said, I don't like some of their personalities or what those people have to say. But to throw out the baby with bathwater seems to me to pretty short-sighted. If not for Fox much of Obama and the far left does would go completely unreported on the major news sources and for that alone they are worthy of watching. B/W Photodude Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I guess this story is probably not accurate either, since Fox brought it out on their website: The city of San Francisco demands Catholic schools stgop teaching Catholic doctrine (SMH, what will these people think of next?): http://nation.foxnews.com/2015/03/09/starnes-san-francisco-demands-catholic-schools-stop-teaching-catholic-doctrine Quote >>>Texts in blue type are quotes<<< ***************************************************************************** And therefore as a stranger give it welcome. As one commenter noted, the two presidents should have marched together rather than Bush being out at the periphery of the march. But no, it was more important to have Al Sharpton near the president. This was a failure of the presidents's team to really make a statement in having a united America. This was discussed at length in the Fox video link by a man who was in the advance team for Bill Clinton. So, I highly doubt he was just another conservative piling on. As far as the exposure problem, not buying it. There was plenty of photos taken and even the one in the link I posted showed they were both in the shade. Perhaps the president needs a new advance team and a new photographer, because the whole affair was just one more bit of incompetency from the president's team. Moderators Bravus Posted March 10, 2015 Author Moderators Posted March 10, 2015 BTW, I was not saying 'Fox News is bad'. I mean, I think it is, but who cares what I think about it? Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted March 10, 2015 Moderators Posted March 10, 2015 Oh for pity's sake. It's places like Fox News which engender and foment the mistrust and lack of collegiality between the Republicans and the Democrats, in Congress and at the state levels. Listening to Fox News just helps this antagonism grow. Why, oh why must everyone argue so much! Finding common ground would be so much more sophisticated and proper -- but the radical Right has taken over, it seems. It's not a sign of weakness to negotiate! And to come to a consensus on items of disagreement. But some don't seem to get it. Bravus, Stan, Gail and 1 other 4 Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Aliensanctuary Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I watch Fox News occasionally, along with other networks and online news reports. I like Fox because it reports on instances of governmental arrogance and "targeted persecution" of average citizens by governmental agencies, which continues to grow. Bible-believing conservatives, especially, are increasingly being portrayed as "hate mongers" by failing to embrace the LGBT agenda and other "liberal" issues. If the trend continues, Christianity will eventually be legally suppressed everywhere and its adherents punished for practicing their beliefs which are derived from the Bible. It's a government intolerant to and hostile to Christian principles that is creating an ever-widening divide. Sadly, it's the ultraconservatives in Congress, elected by we the people, who are doing more harm than good by attempting to completely dismantle Mr. Obamas mandates. With a deadlocked governmental system, one solution is to disband or destroy Congress and let just one man rule, a dictator. Maybe someday Christmas and Easter will be cancelled, replaced with a national "Coming Out Day", "LGBT Day", etc. Conservatives, proponents of lower taxes, balanced budget, less federal government control, more state control, respect for the Constitution, and respect for Christian principles, need to have their voice heard, too, not just the pro-government "liberal" networks. Maybe to us as Christians, the issues Fox News reports on are important. Quote The Parable of the Lamb and the Pigpen https://www.createspace.com/3401451
Moderators lazarus Posted March 10, 2015 Moderators Posted March 10, 2015 Jeannie, I think the whole point of Fox is to create a distinct view of the news that appeals to people on the right. It's like the golf channel. The golf channel wants to make money from golfers. Fox News seeks to make money from right wingers and they need to cater to the their tastes. To suggest that the NY times cropped the photo is precisely what a conservative is apt to believe. Of course Fox won't tell its viewers that the separation that they create is not substantive but just sensational nonsense. CoAspen Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Making issues where there are none. Whipping up right-wing hysteria to foment and widen the divide in our country. Seems to be the standard of practise around the forum these days, people knowingly post bogus garbage and then try to defend it. And they wonder why others have no confidense in their postings. Some persons revel in creating controversy where there is none, a rather sad way of going through life. GIGO Quote

GIGO This is all rather strange. Just out of curiosity I have compared News articles from a variety of sources. Odd how most have the same titles and content in the article. Some are even left wing news whipping up hysteria. JoeMo Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I don't think the news we get on mainstream media is either accurate, complete, or relevant. Most of it is politically biased to either the right or the left; and most of the stuff we need to know about the world (outside of the latest psssing contest between Dems and Repubs) is either censored or so far back in the website that it is impossible to find. To get an accurate perspective, one must visit several domestic and foriegn news sites. No one is telling the truth. Just my jaded opinion... TheCodeMonk 1 Quote

Aliensanctuary Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I don't suppose Jesus would have spent any time at all listening to network newscasts which are mainly about war, death, and evil. We are in a rather disturbing climate of distrust. I will be blunt. Lack of trustworthiness fosters an attitude of distrust in an ever increasing downward spiral. Nobody beleives or trusts anyone else because it has become so common and regular to lie about everything. Truthfulness and forthrightness has become rare. Sadly, it spills over into every area of life. Showing distrust to others does nothing to make them more trustworthy either. In fact evidence would suggest it only makes it more likely that people become less trustworthy in a climate of distrust. They live up to the highest expectation placed on them. If you expect someone to be a liar, they are more apt to at least bend the truth to protect themselves. People who lie are much more likely to expect that others are also lying, and suspect them of not being truthful or forthcoming. On the point in question, that there was a perceived need to even start up a conservative news source was born of a serious level of distrust born of a belief that anyone not conservative was lying. JoeMo Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I think the whole concept of "political correctness" adds to the atmosphere of distrust and/or deception. "Political correctness" is and always will be a manifestation of social and political group-think. That makes it a relative thing; since what is "politically correct" is dependent on what group you're "thinking with" with at the time. CNN, MSNBC, Fox,and most other media outlets have their own version "political correctnes" as do Dems and Repubs; and SDA's and any other denomination you want to name. If your brand of PC doesn't match mine, it's because you are deceived, an idiot, a liar, and/or an infidel. Quote

They don't realize that people have a right to choose how they believe. Adventist go around bragging that they are the remnant but hang around first day folks and lift up their political ideals over the Commandments. Many of the Christians are bigots, evil monger, liars, racist and prejudice. They act just like ISISL and they do terrorize and kill using their guns. I do not agree with abortions, or homosexual acts, but Christians have oral sex just like animals and this is abomination to THE MOST HIGH as well. They do not want to talk about what they do but talk and terrorize other on what they do. The Tea Party movement is full of bigots, it not about working together. Instead do what they want or shut down the government, causing people to lose their pay check. Take Ben Carson, that I know when he had nothing and ate at my table! Acting and saying foolish things! We as Adventist are not suppose to be in politic at all due the government is suppose to be separate from the church! Fox can lie and get away with it because they have no sense of kindness and morality. I will tell you this I will pray for others but watch how they attack me! Happy Sabbath and be bless!
