Igakusei Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Well, I for one would be happy to see more from solid, respectable sources that try to avoid partisan bias and retain some respect for journalistic integrity. The Economist, for instance. Also less opinion pieces, since they're often little more than blog posts that people confuse with actual journalism. While I consider myself fairly liberal on most issues, I generally go out of my way to avoid getting news and analysis from sources with a known left-leaning bias. Except for political news most carry same topic.The one concerning the garbage man going to jail seemed to cause all sorts of scorn for sensationlism. Wasn't even from Fox news,but salon news and huffington post carried same Yes, it does. I haven't brought any of that stuff here for a long, long time. There seems to be an unwillingness to recognize the bias of their own thinking and that of their favored source. Far from perfect at it, but trying. On the other hand, truth exists. There is more to reality than just two biased, unreliable sets of reporters. There is truth. I aim to seek it. It wouldn't be that those accusing do identically the same thing as those they are accusing could it? Tom said..... This is why so many of these stories scrapped up from the bottom of the media barrel are annoying. Just the title alone leads one astray from the real story. It is like most National Enquirer type headlines set up to be sensationalistic. The inaccuracy is the problem. Yes, the story might convey a more accurate version, but reading the title alone is deceptive. It is how false stories get circulated. Someone just reads the headline, reacts and tells a friend. Numerous times here a poster reacts to the title of a topic without actually reading the story connected to it. And then people get their knickers in a knot over being misunderstood or missing the point or whatever. This was reported on several sites. Some of those are the very ones I have seen you use. There isn't anything inaccurate in the story. Maybe you assumed this man showed up at work early and the police were there ready to haul him off to jail. The nature of the internet is that some stories just get basically cut and pasted and reposted as they were originally written without much, if any, editorial oversight. Not a lot different from you reading it on one of your favorite sites and reposting it here. Just a cut and paste job. And some of this happens among effectively networked sites that do it almost automatically, giving the appearance that multiple "news" sources are "reporting" it. Going viral. You see it everywhere, everyone is talking about it... But really it is just the same story unfiltered through many sites that dredge the internet for what is getting attention and repost it to capture more traffic to their site. Which says a lot about their opinion of the public, which is quite often true, in that people do not seem to care about the truth/validity of said article if it agrees with with their personal outlook on life. If I don't check my weather ap on the Ipad, I won't even know when a storm is coming. Someday I will cherish a little couch time, with the socks off, watching FOXNews, MSNBC, Al Jazerra English or... CNN. When I see people arguing over which news source is best it reminds me of people arguing about which genre of music is best. Rock 'N Roll is evil. Country is OK. Jazz is of the devil. Fox is in part more popular than the other mentioned networks because there is only one network that even attempts to give a more conservative view of the news. The others just have to divide up the rest of the pie, so to speak. Given that the last several elections have been nearly even in percentages between the two parties, you can see that probably Fox has 50 percent of the country to itself. As for beating a story to death, they are a 24/7 news network and some days are slower than others. But just because they are 24/7, you don't have to watch 24/7! But just because they are 24/7, you don't have to watch 24/7! Sometimes it is a slow day and they can give attention to "slower" stories.
