Dad Sets Off On Trip Not Knowing the Postcards His Son Receives From Him 8 Years Later Contain His Final Message.

Rowan never got the chance to say goodbye to his father, Joseph. He’s still young enough that his mother, Julie Van Stone, does everything she can to keep the father’s memory alive for the young son who admires him.

 

But two years after Joseph died of a rare neurological disorder called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Opposing Views reports, Rowan received a postcard from his deceased father — a final message of love that was mailed almost eight years ago.

As KUSA News explains, Rowan’s father worked hard for his family, joining the Navy and pursuing multiple graduate degrees at MIT so that he could provide for his new son.

Back in 2007, while driving home from Boston to Colorado, Joseph mailed postcards to the toddler. Though he mailed five or six postcards, only three or four ever arrived at their destination.

 

According to USA Today, Julie vaguely remembers her husband mentioning how many he had sent but never gave much thought to having not received all of them. Eventually, Julie forgot about them. That is, until this week, when one of the missing messages for Rowan mysteriously appeared in their mailbox:

“Hello from Pennsylvania,” read the message from Joseph to Rowan.

“I love you, and I miss you so much. See you soon, love daddy”

Neither Julie nor Rowan can explain why this postcard would show up now, so many years later. But they do feel like it’s the final goodbye that Rowan had been longing for.

Joseph’s parting words were:

“Everything is a circle. We will see each other again. All that matters is love.”

And for the family he left behind, this last message has been a gift and a reminder of that final promise.
