because miserable people love to be around other miserable people...  being around happy people makes miserable people even more miserable...and sometimes it can make them infuriated with happy people..

Both are good books, but I liked When Sheep Attack better. It really detailed the carnage in the lives of the clergy when what is usually a part of a congregation turns on them. Some of the worst of the congregations were the former pastors who remained as a member of the congregation.

Clegy Killers seemed to be more generic, where When Sheep Attack was specifically Episcopalian. A locally controlled hiring and paying of salaries seemed to favor it, and the SDA model seems to limit it. However, I have seen it happen to pastors in the SDA church and abuse of members by pastors in the SDA church. Abuse is an equal oppurtunity event.

With the loss of the unity of mission and the sense of urgency, congregations invariably will degenerate into factions, sometimes over the most insignificant things. One of the cures might very well be illegalization of Christianity and its removal from the public to the underground sector. Those still embracing Christianity at the risk of their, or their friends', lives will no longer have a need to quibble over even the most irrelevant and insignificant of church matters.

"Whatever is Gregory on about" is how I thought at first glance to the topic title.

Now after reading I understand.

 

I hurt for these men who have the theological education and have been ordained by the laying on of hands to serve the congregations. But they get a doolup whack of persecution by members of the church they serve.  Even in SDA circles are preachers with hurt souls because of how certain members go at them with tooth and claw.

 

Wicked!    I tell you, it is wicked.

There should be an article on how pastors destroy people...just for balance.....

 

A former (very popular) pastor, was a Baptist is SDA clothing. I prayed for him. Then one Sabbath he preached a most anti SDA sermon. In my seat, I silently prayed "How long Lord must your people be subjected to this messenger? Lord remove him from this pulpit." Then the man paused his sermon and resigned on the spot.

 

The church elders chose his successor (a man with a similar mindset.) I prayed for him for a while and then moved my membership. Eventually, the woman's Tuesday prayer group prayed for him too. On the fateful day, they prayed "Lord he's a great pastor for some folks, but not what the majority of us need. Please remove him and send another man who will meet the needs of the church." Before that prayer group disbanded that morning, the news of his sudden death arrived. Those women are still struggling with it several years later.

I know of at least 3 SDA pastors of a church I used to attend who left (or were drummed out of) the denomination because of attcks by special interest groups in the congregation who spread lies (or "evil" spins on the truth) about clergy that they found "unworthy" of the calling.  I moved my membership because of the congregants; not the pastors.

 

I also know of a few people who left the religion (including Chritianity in general) because of the way they were treated by church leadership AND membership.  It seems to work both ways.

Unfortunately, instead of bringing in the sheathes, too many (pastors & saints) scatter abroad. It must make God wonder who's side we are on? But that will be determined in the judgment. Amen

I would like to suggest it seems odd to me for me to even begin to contemplate leaving the body of Christ as a result of fallible humans in the body. We know in the last days there will be tares, sown by the enemy, in the church. Just as there are some who mourn for the condition of the world, not yet having the knowledge Jesus is coming, to deliver any who will accept Him, from the evil of this age.
