Police in the U.K do not have firearms.

Just wondering as a Seventh-day Adventist, what your thoughts are on the idea of the UK police not being issued or permitted to use firearms? How would you feel if the same ruling was made for police in your local area?

British police patrol without firearms, if they encounter a situation with an armed person they fall back and call in the special armed services group.

The person that told me this suggested that because the public are aware that the police are not armed, it creates a different sense of contact between police and the public, she thought it to be in a positive way.

This practice led to one police officer being chopped up with a sword by a terrorist.

And don't forget, there is no Second Ammedment in the UK.

Sojourner, just wait a few years and the  UK will catch up. The dogs even have teeth now!

You are right that the experience is a lot different when encountering UK police. The encounter with US police is akin to what I remember when I travelled to former eastern block countires. There was a sense that they had all the power and control and that things could get very nasty quickly. UK police rely more on relationship and persuasion rather than the fact that they possess lethan force. After all American police know that if things go wrong they can kill you and say they feared for their life and the odds are in their favour. Sounds harsh but it is true.

LOL, Here we go again. Political ideology getting in the way of the facts. Might need to check that story again. If there was a second amentment in the UK we'd probably have thousands dead every year from gun violence rather than the less than 120. Most western countries don't have a seocnd amendment and they are doing fine thanks.
