Sojourner Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I agree with him there, sometimes we wonder what it is that we can do to change anything, yet if we all did something no matter how small it is, then collectively the change would be great. https://www.facebook.com/132498760126310/photos/a.135330436509809.11648.132498760126310/891524527557059/?type=1&theater Quote
Aliensanctuary Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Eliminating selfishness, greed, and disrespect for life might be a great start in transforming our neighborhood and the world into a place of peace and prosperity. I don't believe that will happen in this life. I lost count of how many wise sayings there were posted with his pictures. fccool Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Selfishness and greed are not problems in adequate context, and it's impossible to get rid of these. Self is who we are and who we are concerned about. Without a sense of self we wouldn't be here. Instead of saying "Getting rid of selfishness and greed", I think it's better to focus on cultivating charity, compassion and understanding. Just because you suppress selfishness, doesn't mean that you create anything positive. You merely taking something out of equation that makes up our humanity. There should be a balance between selfishness, greed, and charity, understanding and compassion. I don't think it's a problem to be "greedy" in some context. Some people are greedy for achievement. Some people will tune everything out and focus on some part of their self. The issue is that when these things are not balanced by other qualities, then they can take over and create tremendous and unsustainable lack of balance and problems. Quote

Just because you suppress selfishness, doesn't mean that you create anything positive. I think that the 10 C's are an attempt to direct us away from selfishness. Humanity will, of course, be plagued by selfishness until the end of this age, but we can and must fight it in this life. We may surround ourselves with money and all of the stuff it buys, but it's the poor who will inherit the world. In the next life, then, those who are chosen will own little or nothing. How would life be different today if we owned very little stuff? How would it affect the rest of the world? We would probably return to a civilization based on agriculture, as in the past. Members phkrause Posted May 6, 2015 Members Posted May 6, 2015 I think that the 10 C's are an attempt to direct us away from selfishness. Attempt????? The 10 Commandments are the moral law that God gave to all to help us live happy lives. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
LifeHiscost Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Attempt????? The 10 Commandments are the moral law that God gave to all to help us live happy lives. And if I haven't said it before, the commandments are not demandments (free will is given to all of God's children) but promises that are fulfilled to the believers. 16“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. 18“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him....John 3 God is Love! Jesus saves! Did someone say they are demandments????? I haven't read that anywhere!!!!! Last I recall I said they were the moral Law that God has given us and if we actually followed them we would live happy lives, but many disregard them and than wonder why the world is in the position it is. Last I recall I said they were the moral Law that God has given us and if we actually followed them we would live happy lives, but many disregard them and than wonder why the world is in the position it is. I was just thinking that you or anyone else submitting to our Father, would feel elated that our future is based upon God's unfailing promises of Love, as opposed to trying to keep something difficult to perform. Not everyone has that settled in their mind yet I imagine. …11for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. 12For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day....2 Timothy 1 1Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart....Hebrews 12 7Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8Draw near to God and He will draw near to you....James 4 God is Love! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
