Everyone certainly has a right to an opinion, but...it is just an opinion, not a fact. What I find troubling about some of his comments are those surrounding homosexuals. He is a highly educated man and I would expect his opinions to be based on knowledge. He is either ignoring the research available on the subject of sexual choice or just pandering to his audiences, both rather sad and puzzling.

"A lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight - and when they come out, they're gay. So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question," he said in a CNN interview earlier this year, explaining his view that being gay is a choice.

But as with anything, God can use everything for His glory. Perhaps, it will get people interested in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. One this is certain, that Seventh Day Adventism will be a common topic around the U.S. (I hope).

TR, I find it interesting that you left out an important part of the quote:

Those in the ministry who desire to stand as politicians should have their credentials taken from them; for this work God has not given to high or low among His people. God calls upon all who minister in doctrine to give the trumpet a certain sound.

Is Dr. Carson someone who ministers, either high or low, in doctrine.  I thilnk not.  His ministry ahs been of a different kind.

 

By the way, the 2nd part of your quote, refers to teachers in our schools.

TR, I find the following interesting:

The Lord sets men in positions of responsibility to carry out not their own will, but God's will. He gives wisdom to those who seek Him and depend upon Him as their Counselor. So long as men represent the pure principles of His government, He will continue to bless and maintain them as His instrumentalities to carry out His purposes concerning His people. He cooperates with those who cooperate with Him.... The test by which Solomon was measured, is used to measure all (MS 81, 1900).  {3BC 1131.9}

 

As a  matter of fact, there are numerous statements by EGW in which she states that God has his representatives in government positions.  Included in here statements are government positions that are elected positions.

Yes, she says a lot about clergy not becoming involved in such.  The issues is that one cannot be everything.  Clergy have a role and should stay in that role.  But, others should fill the role that God has given them.

 

I may, or may not, vote for Ben Carson.   But, it is O.K. for him to run for the office of President of the United States.

When a man is elected to a position of trust, to preside over important interests, large and broad, or over interests of less extent, but still important, Satan stirs up the minds of those who are selfish, who are not consecrated to God's service, who have not an eye single to his glory. He fills their hearts with the spirit of criticizing and accusing. If they think that they are not especially favored, they will talk of the mistakes and errors of the one against whom they are working. This step taken, Satan, whose special business it is to create alienation and strife, will place the matter before these persons in a most deceiving way, and they will bring against those in positions of trust the most unjust charges, in order to discourage and destroy God's servants.  {RH, September 7, 1897 par. 6}

Think about it.  Perhaps those who criticize Dr. Carson for running for President may be doing the work of Satan?

I don't agree with you a lot, Gregory, but on this I do.  Ellen White said that SDA's should have been highly involved in the Prohibition movement in, and I quote, voice, pen and vote.  She was, in effect, saying SDAs should have been political activitists on this issue.  She also told a young person, and I can't find the exact quote anymore but I have read it multiple times, that if he decided to go into politics to make sure he honored God in everything he did.  She did not tell him going into politics was proscribed behavior.

 

She plainly tells us that "as a people" we should not be involved in politics.  That is much different than an individual being civic minded and being a part of the community as voting or running for office are a civic duties and rights given us by the US Constitution.  This idea that God wants us to say that we're too good, too special to actually be real entities in all aspects of our communities and work for the good of our nation and our local communities is very strange indeed.

Joeb, you certainly do not have to agree with me.  I am not always correct.

 

Writing in:  A. L White, ELLEN G. WHITE, vol. 3, THE LONLY YEARS, 1876 - 1891,  Review & Herald, 1984,on page 160

Elder White, the grandson of EGW tells us that EGW advocated that people should vote on the Sabbath, if necessary to advance the cause of prohibition.

You are correct as to we as a people being involved in politics.

She was also clear that God has his people in civil government, to include elected officials.

​Carson has stated again and again that he doesn't want to be a politician.  He's staying true to what he says.  And of course he is correct about the GOP.  It is as corrupt and anti-constitutional as the Democrat party. 

I watched some of that interview and I have to say I agree with him wholeheartedly.  I love him staying true to his convictions.  He's a man of integrity and that is something missing from almost all politicians these days.  If his name is on the primary ballot I'll vote for him then and in the general election.

Likewise for the military. I only found out recently that my dad had homosexual encounters in the military back in the late 1940's. I don't think it was a lifestyle, just something that happened back then for entertainment. BTW, I have 3 siblings. BTW, I have never entertained thoughts of kissing or sleeping with other men. For me that would be extremely disgusting.

Mr. Carson may be smart enough to fix America, but he can't do it alone. Sadly, he might have to become a politician who lies in order to raise enough money to run a serous campaign.
