Dale 6 hours ago For the first forty years after their discovery the Dead Sea scrolls were tightly controlled by a tiny group of scholars. They would occasionally release a couple of photos of a few scraps of them--but nobody else got to see them. Finally, 15 years ago the Huntington Museum in Southern California, discovered that they had completely copies on microfilm, because they had sponsored the purchase of the scrolls from some Bedouins. The museum announced that they were going to release the scrolls so that everybody could see them. The group that controlled them tried to sue, but eventually gave up.
