Church Vans

LynDel has posted a news item that reports on an accident involving a Van used by a SDA congregation in New York that resulted in the deaths of three people riding in the van. 

NOTE:  It should be noted that there was no alleged error on the part of the van driver and that the use of that van probably did not play any factor in the deaths of the three people.  Probably the fault lies with the other vehicle.

This brings up the issue of local congregations and the vehicles that they use to transport children to school and adults to other gatherings.

Twelve (12) and fifteen (15) passenger vans are generally considered unsafe to be used in school transportation  In some places they are prohibited by law.  See the following:

Granted the above only relates to the transportation of school children.

I am told by SDA School personnel that the SDA Church strongly advises against the use of 12 & 15 passenger vans for the transportation of any people.

 

You might want to check on what your church is using to transport people.

don't some Pathfinder clubs use vans for hauling members?  (I know they *used* to do that)
