news Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Dr. Sydney O. Beaumont, who served as president of West Indies College, now Northern Caribbean University (NCU) from 1962 to 1964, died on July 9, 2012. He was 94. Dr. Beaumont was the first Jamaican president to assume responsibilities at the helm of the institution. Among his many accomplishments were the resuscitation of the on-campus farming industry, the erection of the building that still houses the Sorenson Hall (the cafeteria) and classrooms, and the procurement of adequate printing equipment for the NCU Press.
