Ordination-Commissioning Set for Sabbath

Yami Bazan, associate youth director for SECC, will be ordained-commissioned in a service on December 17, 2:30 p.m., in the La Sierra University Church.

That must be a female person. (Can't tell by the name.)

But there's no "ordination/commissioning service" for male ministers; it's just simply called an "ordination."

I believe that the SECC gives the same credential to its male and female clergy.

Yes that is correct. The same credentials are given to men and women in SECC.

I think they setting an example for the rest of the Adventist Church. The rest of the church does not seem very far behind. (At least in North America)

Here in Western Australia we recently had a commissioning service for a female minister, who also happened to be pregnant, and who will be working part-time after the birth of her infant.

It seems strange to me that there is no problem in accepting the "laying on of hands" in the ordination of female church elders, but not with female ministers.

However, I must not get up on that soapbox again! (it's too tempting!!!)

"Grace is God doing for us, in us and through us that which He requires of us but which is impossible for us to do in or for ourselves."

But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Cor. 12:9.

Good to see you round here again Beryl. And good to hear about the commissioning of that lady.

And I agree, I will keep off the soapbox too. I was ordained an elder many years ago, and made the point that I just wanted to be elder and not shepherdess. Thankfully the church agreed to that <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

One question; can we show in the Bible were it is ok for females to be ministers? Where?

I need this info for a friend from another country.

Thanks,

Naomi

Not an easy question Naomi - I do not think there are any particular texts that say females can be ministers. On the other hand, those who agree with female ordination will point out that in the Christian era, there are no texts that say women should not be ministers. This whole topic was thrashed out here some time ago, you may find more ideas by revisiting it - but I cannot recall the name of the thread.

Thanks Nan. Yes, I do remember some of the discussion, but as you, I can't remember the name of the thread.

Thanks,

Naomi
