1 Peter 3:7

You husbands must be careful of your wives, being thoughtful of

their needs and honoring them as the weaker sex. Remember that

you and your wife are partners in receiving God's blessings,

and if you don't treat her as you should, your prayers will not

get ready answers.

No not works - works concerns trying to earn salvation by our works. This is not trying to earn salvation, just trying to make life here happier isnt it?

I will see what a few different versions offer on this text. <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

NIV 7Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

NASB (A)You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with (B)someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

Amplified 7In the same way you married men should live considerately with [your wives], with an intelligent recognition [of the marriage relation], honoring the woman as [physically] the weaker, but [realizing that you] are joint heirs of the grace (God's unmerited favor) of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered and cut off. [Otherwise you cannot pray effectively.]

Young's Literal 7The husbands, in like manner, dwelling with [them], according to knowledge, as to a weaker vessel -- to the wife -- imparting honour, as also being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered.

KJV 7Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

7If you are a husband, you should be thoughtful of your wife. Treat her with honor, because she isn't as strong as you are, and she shares with you in the gift of life. Then nothing will stand in the way of your prayers.

[:"purple"] Not sure how much all this helps, but I guess it is related to the 'if you have ought against your brother' issues. Hard to pray effectively if you have a negative relationship with someone close to you [/]

Maybe it means that if you don't treat people around you like you should, then there will be so much static of stress in your life that you won't hear God's answers.

These comments remind me of: Matthew 5:23-24 So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Uh, yeah- how else did you think it worked?? <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Christian comedian Jeff Allen has a DVD out called "Happy Wife, Happy Life". He's obviously learned the lesson... LOL

Although I'm sure it works the other way 'round as well!

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
