In 1993 T. Coraghessan Boyle, distinguished professor of English at the University of Southern California and critically acclaimed satirist, directed the crosshairs of his fifth novel, The Road to Wellville, squarely at Battle Creek, Michigan. Generally he focused the sites of his satire on the stirring genesis of the health reform movement at the beginning of the twentieth century, aiming specifically at John Harvey Kellogg.
