Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted May 23, 2015 Members Posted May 23, 2015 The late Woodrow Roach of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, fought for the US Army from 1944-1945, and believed the Lord's Prayer to be his "good luck charm" while serving in Italy and the Philippines. The prayer is written in the Cherokee language syllabary as well as phonetically, as Roach was a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. The prayer, which Roach kept with him at all times, is now in the permanent collection of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. Martn and Gail 2 Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Lauralea Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I am part Cherokee, as are most people whose family has lived in this part of North Carolina for centuries. I read one reason they chose Navajo and not Cherokee for the code talkers in WWII is because Sequoyah developed a written alphabet for the Cherokees and printed the Bible in Cherokee, which I saw a copy of in the Cherokee museum. It is easy to see from this passage, assuming there are others like it, that it would have been easier to break a code done in Cherokee. rudywoofs (Pam) and Martn 2 Quote Behold what manner of love the Father hath given unto us.

I've seen small hymnbooks also printed in Cherokee.. Lauralea 1 Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup.
