Refreshingly honest. Tom Wetmore 1 Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
joeb Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Rand Paul is an isolationist. In his mind the US shouldn't ever be involved militarily in the world's affairs. People with the same political views he holds said we should never get involved in WWII even though evil was running amok. So, his words need to be taken with a large grain of salt. But remember this is gospel by that unbiased Huffington Post Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Moderators Bravus Posted May 28, 2015 Moderators Posted May 28, 2015 For how long will harking back to WW2 work as a rhetorical device for justifying every failed war in which America enmeshes itself? One success, and then, since not long after it, the litany goes Korea, Vietnam, Gulf 1, Afghanistan, Gulf 2, sort of Libya, ... with various other disastrous incursions like the Bay of Pigs, Nicaragua, Somalia, Cambodia and Laos, Granada, ...How do we feel about that long string of disasters. One win and 30 losses... What odds on a win against Iran (which, incidentally, is still blowback from the CIA overthrowing a democratically elected government and installing the Shah in 1953)?The original quote: that they've been wrong about everything for 20 years, is overly generous: I make it 70, at least. Agreed, but he is trying to win the GOP nomination so he can't be that blunt. It just occurred to me that perhaps the goal is not to "win" or be right. What if the whole point of these interventions is just to be there. Arms manufactures make money win, lose, or draw. Edited May 28, 2015 by lazarus This post is by Lazarus Quote

That wasn't anything about WWII other than to show that isolationism has long been popular in the US. It goes back a lot further than WWII too. The post was about showing that an isolationist will object to any war no matter how just it is or how necessary it is. Most libertarians, which is what Rand Paul is, take a very similar stance to his. That you immediately see my post as trying to use WWII to justify the Iraq war says a whole lot more about you than that post does about me Quote Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.Alexis de Tocqueville
