aldona Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Well, it's New Year here, anyway. It's 12.20 am here and I can hear lots of fireworks all through the neighborhood. And it's 33 degrees C (91.4 F) outside which is far too hot to sleep, so I'm still up! Happy New Year to one and all, and may God bless you all in the coming year! aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? It is 10:15 pm here in Perth, Western Australia. We have had a lovely Sabbath. This evening we all met at the church half an hour before sunset, and had a lovely relaxed sing-a-long of favourite hymns, songs and choruses, followed by a relaxed message from our pastor, and a time of short, but fervent prayers of thankfulness for the last year, and consecration for the New Year, after which all were invited to to home of one of our elders, who has a lovely home on the escarpement overlooking Perth, where they will be spending the rest of this year in games, etc, with a full view of the city lights for miles either way, and a birds-eye view of the midnight fireworks. The church was comfortably full for the service. This practice began several years ago when a non-Adventist friend asked whether our church had anything to welcome in the New Year that was a bit more spiritual than the usual hollerbaloo! I said I would check -- and then several of us got to organizing this as a sunset service (New Year, Bible time!), which still allowed the people to go kick up their heels at midnight if they wished. It has grown, and usually has several non-Adventists come and join us. S0-- [:"red"]HAPPY NEW YEAR -- HAVE A GREAT 2006 -- AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL! Administrators Naomi Posted December 31, 2005 Administrators Posted December 31, 2005 Greetings, It's 8:44am, Sabbath morning, and around 50 degrees F. I am preparing to leave for church. I do hope we have no fireworks they have a ban on them due to the extreme drought in this area. We also have an unusual amount of high winds. The combination provides an ideal situation to promote fire; we lots of fires all around us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~````` Beryl, your sundown services at your church sound much like we used to have .... long ago when I was a girl ... Glad you are doing that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I join with Doug in wishing all of our friends who are living in the New Year, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Naomi Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted December 31, 2005 Moderators Posted December 31, 2005 Many years ago, when I was a local pastor, I would have a 6 hour New Years Eve service. I divided it up into one hour blocks. People could come and go as they pleased. Time: 6PM until Midnight. A one hour block for Communion. A one hour block for supper and fellowship. Each other one hour block was divided into the following 15 minute blocks: One block for singing. One block for personal testimonies, or whatever people wanted to say. One block for Scripture reading and comment. I am trying to remember exactly what I did with the last 15 minuite period, but it may have been a break for people to walk around and attend to personal needs. Six hours is a long time for a service. You know, those servcies were always successful, and attended. Sometimes I held them in connection with other local SDA Chruches, and other times, only with my church. Quote Gregory
