Stan Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Too many churches, and members don't care about lost people, and that fact comes across loud and clear. Perhaps it is because....???? Moderators Bravus Posted December 31, 2005 Moderators Posted December 31, 2005 We might be tempted to just project our own issues onto this (very important) question - some to say it's because we're too judgemental, others because we're not spiritual enough and so on. So I hope I'm not doing that when I say that it's because we tend to see people as 'the lost' or 'the world' rather than as people, and so loving them and caring about them becomes a righteous duty, rather than a simple response to them as individuals who we get to know and love. It's hard to care, except in a very abstract sense, about someone you don't know. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Many may have issues with that. I find that hard to grasp. In my job, I subcontract out 85% of our work so I am the boss's boss. That is, I have the owners of various companies working for me. I have often lectured them about worker safety and have reminded them that their workers are real people with wives, children, hopes and dreams. If they get killed on the job they are going to leave widows and orphans behind. You would think that is so obvious it doesn't need to be said. But saddly, it does. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators Bravus Posted December 31, 2005 Moderators Posted December 31, 2005 Awesome, Shane - and yes, you're in a great situation where you do know people. Sadly, one of the issues with the SDA church is our 'ghettos' at Loma Linda and Avondale and similar places, where we live, work and worship alongside other Adventists. Quote Truth is important
Neil D Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Quote: Shane said: We are too distracted by the cares of this world. Hmmmm....I would say we are too distracted by OUR OWN cares of this world.... We need to be more involved in our neighbors, bake more cookies and distribute them....make bread and see if our neighbors like it... Instead,at the ned of the day, we are focused on that payment, the TV show, the tiredness of our feet, the need for more money, ...... Is this making any sense? Dr. Shane Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 My wife sells Avon products and one day she came home telling me how baddly our next-door neighbor had treated her. I remarked that it sounded like we needed to bake her a cake. Well, my wife wasn't too impressed with my solution. However, after a few days, while I was at work, she did bake her a cake and they have been friends ever since. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
