What's the difference?

Many people in today's church miss the work of the cross. They say the cross did away with the Law so they say such things as, "You're in bondage if you abstain from unclean meat." or "You're living under the old covenant if you honor the seventh day Sabbath."

So what is the difference between the old and the new?

The difference is not seen in our relationship to the Law, but rather, our relationship to God. All of God's instructions are good.  They not only bring life, but they protect life as well.

So why the Law on stone?

The ways of God were made plain through the Law on stone because the thoughts of man were evil continually. The Law was given to those who are at enmity with God in their heart to bring judgment upon those who live contrary to godly love and life. When an enemy of God is saved through the cross all their past is wiped clean and they become an adopted child of God. As a child of God they begin to see and understand the value in Dad's wisdom. As a child of God we begin to live in the wisdom of our Father's teachings. We have freedom as a son or daughter of God in that all is lawful but not all is helpful. The instructions of our Father is not seen as a Law that condemns, but rather, as wisdom from a Dad who loves us. As a newly born son or daughter of God the ways of God become valuable to us, we begin to love what our Father loves and value what our Father values because we are now part of His family. Until you become a family member you will never understand the new relationship we have.

Romans 8:30-35 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Without the family relationship the Law will always be the Law that forever hangs over our head to condemn because that's what it's supposed to do to those who are outside of the family of God. 

1 Timothy 1:1-11 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man slayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.

I believe when the Bible says we have been freed from the Law it really means it. The Law demands obedience or die. The Law protects God's creation against those who choose to live in such a way that their lives and how they live bring death and destruction to life and relationships. We are surely very close to the coming of Jesus to establish His millennial kingdom. If the people He is preparing right now are not totally free from the Law to live as they please, whether good or evil, they will never be happy in God's eternal kingdom. In other words, if we, as sons and daughters of God, who have been born of God need a Law to force us to obey the principles of kingdom living we will never be truly happy when that kingdom comes. Being totally and 100% free from the Law allows us to make the choice to live as kingdom people now because we love and highly value the kingdom life, not because of fear of judgement. If you still need a Law to force you to live as kingdom people you are not yet ready for the kingdom. There is one verse that really helps us to understand the heart of those who have freedom to live as they please, whether good or evil.

2 Timothy 4:8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who love His appearing.

Will we love His appearing or would we rather have Jesus tarry a little longer because we enjoy this life more than the life that is to come?If we enjoy this life more than the life that is to come it's probably because we are comfortable living in an anti-kingdom age. It could be because we have not yet completely given ourselves to living the kingdom life now in this present evil age. Kingdom people living the kingdom life now should be so sick of this age, with all it's perversion and anti-kingdom laws, that we will whole heartily long for Jesus' return and will love His appearing.

The Law must be removed so that those who are approved by God can shine and those who are not, well you will know them by their fruit. It will be as Cain and Able within the family of God because of how we choose to worship.

Romans 8:1-4 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
