Interesting comment by Doug Batchelor on Amazing Facts today, something I had not ever really considered before.

To by like God and have the ability to create a new world is foundational to understanding why Eve (and Adam) ate the mango.

 

O.K.  I know it was not a mango.  But, there is no reason to believe it was an American apple.

I was interested in your report of Doug Bachelor’s comments on Genesis 3. I received a few DVDs of talks by Doug Bachelor from a SDA friend, but these were on different subjects, mainly the SDA view of the Millenium. I have a different perspective as I believe that Jesus will rule from the throne of David in Jerusalem for the 1000 years.

Could I ask what is the standard SDA view of the Serpent in Genesis 3:
Genesis 3:1-5 (KJV): 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

My personal view is that the Serpent was one of the creatures that God created on the 6th Day of Creation. It appears from the narrative that God gave the Serpent both the ability to reason “the serpent was more subtil” or discerning, and God also gave this beast of the field the ability to speak. In other words the Serpent was able to express in words its subtilty or reasoning.

This assessment is confirmed by the sentence placed upon the serpent:
Genesis 3:14-15 (KJV): 14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
This shows that the serpent was one of the creatures made in Eden. As such I disagree with Doug Bachelor’s comments.
